The Conroe Motherboard list

This is by no means complete. If you come across new boards or better images, please let me know and I will update this OP with them.

Also note, there will be various lines of each in most cases, but didn't feel the need to cover every single one.

965 Chipsets
==========

ASUS P5B:

Abit AB8 (& Pro):

Gigabye GA-965-DQ6:

Albatron PX965:

MSI P965 Neo:

ECS P965-A:

Foxconn P9657-AA:

TForce P965:

AOpen i965GM-HFL (mATX):

Intel will also have a 965 board obviously, I just have not found any info on it yet.

975 Chipsets
==========
Note this section is a little "iffy". Unlike 965 chipset boards which will ALL be made for Conroe, 975 chipset boards can be Conroe-ready or not depending on the power circuitry. I have tried to locate 975s that are specifically for Conroe, but those I am unsure of are noted.

ASUS P5W-DH (available NOW):

ASUS P5WD2-E Rev. 1.03G (????): I am not 100% sure on this one

MSI Platinum 975X (Rev. 2):

DFI Infinity 975X/G (available NOW):

Intel D975XBX rev. 304 ("BadAxe"):

Albatron PX975 (which *should* support Conroe, but hasn't been confirmed to do so yet):

ASRock 775 Twins-HDTV R2.0:

ATI RD600
========
ATI (no model # found )

DFI Lanparty UT RD600-T2R/G
[ No images for this DFI yet either! ]

What sort of difference will we see with the 965s vs the 975s? I know 965 is the newer chipset, but is it a cheaper option to a 985? Whats makes it different....?

985 can't even be discussed really. There's not much/any info on them out there and they won't even be available until the end of the year. I'd need to dig up the specifics on the 965/975 chipset themselves, but as far as the boards go, it doesn't look like a whole lot will be different, likely just ports and some port specs. Just remember that chipset aside, the boards generally have more/better features built around the premium chipset.

The only real external difference I am seeing is that the 2nd PCI-e slot on the 965 boards is only x4 where 975 is x8, very much like the 955/975. 975s also handled some virtualization/HT that the 955 didn't, but I am sure the 965 makes those inclusive now too. 965 is very much looking like an updated 955 which is fine by me because the 955 is a killer chipset. As for Conroe optimizations or other new features in 965s, we'd need to find some white papers, which I don't think at available yet.

sweet collection Ross!!!

this will be a VERY helpful thread in the future

PS tiger/global has the "bad axe" in stock but im not sure of the rev.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...877&CatId=2245

(if somebody can confirm the rev 304 PLEASE post here )

edit:
whats up with this 3x PCI-E slots? are these crossfire? can you use the 1st and 3rd for max space for cooling?

JC, thanks...I kind of did it to see what's up as of late and ended up with a longer list than I expected I am not sure on the 3x PCI-e on the Intel board It must be for something else or they would've just spread the 2 slots out and not added a 3rd. I have no idea

Some/most Fry's Electronics have the Rev. 304 boards if you have one locally. I don't think most of the phone people at these places either have a clue or any way to find out unfortunately.

ive got a "corporate account" through Global, ill try to get the info out of my "personal" rep on Tuesday ...

EIDT:

i bring up the PCI-E slots only because i dont like the amount of space between the 2x on the Bad-Axe... the MSI seems to have the best slot arrangement
the Albatron PX965 look ok too...

man i've almost pulled the trigger on the bad axe sooo many times today but i just cant decide.

i hear its a decent overclocker but you have to "unhide" the bios options like vcore and FSB and what not.

if thats tru then id rather wait for the "supposed" P5WD2 revision w/ full OC potential.

Yeah, I gotta say, I more impressed with that Intel board than I ever thought I would be. You can use the Intel toolkit to edit the "BIOS", which actually doesn't seem very hard. I am starting to like that MSI 975 board a whole lot too.

JC, keep us posted on what you find out, if anything

Ross-

Thank you for the list. I'm looking forward to when these babies are out in the wild! I'm going to assume the 965 chipset will be released right around July 23...

You're welcome and I am really looking forward to them too!! This 955 board has done me well, but I managed to put off a 975 since Jan. just waiting for something that will run Conroe. Suffice it to say, I've been waiting a while

.

extreme cooling insulation looks like fun on some of these...

i hate when they drop caps real close to the socket like the P5WD2-E:

(thats 1/8" foam with tape and i dont pull off the backer)
a setup like this can go with NO dielectric grease + the stock chilly1 insulation

The third PCI-E on the Badaxe is just that, a third PCI-E for HD controllers, Network adapters (high end gigibit-lan or fiber) and later PPU's are slated for PCI-E from what I've read.
HTH

Are the new 975 boards going to definately get the new southbridge?
Or has there been any new news on that front?

I'm sure rev. 304 on the badaxe has the old southbridge (unless JC would like confirm, what SB does your badaxe have????)

JC, I hear that. I hate insulating my Prem (same cap arrangement). I "cheat" a bit though...ordered some Swifty pelt insulation kits and use them around the socket (die cut 1/4" thick) and then Armaflex over it

I passed on an ES over a month ago just I wasn't in the same boat....Conroe here and not a mobo to run it on in sight. Well, there's some now, but a month ago, nothing ran it

If I had that info, I would I wouldn't expect to see a single one of these in retail much more than a few days before Conroe release if not on the same day. Manufacturers will want to unload every last bit of non-Conroe mobos before putting these out.

I haven't used or seen one in the flesh, but the bad axe looks like one might fine board in the photos and the results. (I usually steer clear of Intel's actual motherboards)
Unhiding a few options shouldn't be to hard to do, I think you just download the unhide software from Intel, make a few changes.

DFI has 3 boards coming for Conroe including an ATI & Nvidia chipset board.

Intel Socket 775
Crossfire platform

Infinity
975X/G

LGA775, DDR II, ATX, 975X+ICH7R
CF PCIeX8/X8,PCIeX4, PCIeX1, 2 PCI
4 SATA II, 2 IEEE1394, 8 USB2.0
GbE LAN, 8CH Audio, E-SATA

ES: May MP: June

Conroe

LP UT
RD600-T2R/G

LGA775, DDR II, ATX, RD600+SB650
CF PCIeX8/X8, PCIeX1, 3 PCI
4 SATA II, 2 IEEE1394, 8 USB2.0
Dual GbE LAN, 8CH Audio

ES: June MP: Aug.

Conroe

Intel Socket 775
SLI platform

LP UT
C19SLI32-T2R/G

LGA775, DDR II, ATX, C19SLIX16+MCP55
SLI PCIeX16/X16, PCIeX1, 3 PCI
6 SATA II, 2 IEEE1394, 10 USB2.0
Dual GbE LAN, 8CH Audio

ES: June MP: Aug.

Conroe

Problem with the ATI board is it's based on the re-badged RD480 NB with 8X/8X PCIe lanes, same with the Infinity. Only the SLI version is 16X/16X, yes thats right SLI with Intel.

It was my understanding that DFI was releasing a Conroe board designed by Oscar Wu (?) who designed the Lanparty board. It was implied that this board would likely be a spectacular overclocker. I wonder if it is the SLI board...?

If DFI can turn this one around there is a 99.9% chance it will be the Intel chipset (no SLI).

Asus

The MSI and its 460FSB crazyness (if coolander will spill the beans on how he did that )
