CD-RW Problem

I just bought an older(2001) cd-rw off of ebay. I can burn data onto cd-r's just fine but when i try to burn a music cd it gets to like 5% and just locks nero up and all i can do is restart the comp. When i try and burn it with the windows software it comes up with unknown error.
This kinda sucks because i got it for my mom so she can burn her own cd's instead of callin me every other day to burn them for her. Also becuase it burns data no problem i dont think i can ask to return it.
Any suggestions anyone?

Try different media.

Im not sure what you mean by different media.

Some burners don't like some CD's; he means to try a different brand of CD-R(W)'s.
