Microsoft Vista Beta2 free public download

This was posted in MS Operating systems, but it is online, it's cyber, and it's free so here we go:

Microsoft releases public download site for Vista Beta 2.

http://download.windowsvista.com/pre...6/download.htm

From the site: "Thank you for your interest in Windows Vista Beta 2.

This page includes information to help you download the Beta 2 ISO file. Once you complete the download you must burn the ISO file to a DVD. If you don’t know if your DVD-burning software will support burning an ISO file, please refer to your DVD-burning software program and search “Help” for instructions on creating a disc from an ISO file. "

I'm having trouble dling this, the dl manager doesn't work for me. If I try the direct link, IE detects it as 13.7 MB, and Firefox detects it as the proper size but stops mid way.

I believe that if you are lacking a CD Key for Vista Beta 2 then you are wasting your time with this download.

I just ordered the DVD to be delivered by USPS. It cost a massive $10.56.

It will be here in 2-4 weeks.

The site is getting uber slammed and you can not initiate a download at the moment.

Will this OS lock up after a while? In other words, is it a timed trial? I'm interested in trying it out, but I won't bother if I've got to rebuild my machine in 3 or 6 months. I'm not looking to get anything free out of this and will buy Vista when it's released, but I don't want to go through the hassle of setting up everything and installing my software just to be forced into doing it again (and reactiving XP) in a few months.

Well according to this info, you should be able to upgrade it to full version when vista comes out.

Microsoft warns that the software should not be used "in a production environment or on a main machine in the home". The site also says that once the software is installed you will not be able to "roll-back" to the previous operating system - you must either install the final Vista release or re-install an older version of Windows.
__________________________________________________ ______________

But still I think I would prefer a clean install either way, who knows what happens when the Final version comes out. For all you know it might require a clean install anyway.

Who ever gave it to you is wrong. there is no service pack 3 for XP, any one who claims their is a service pack 3 is likely just someone who download the hotfixes released since SP2 and some sites put it all into a purdy installer and "claimed" it was SP3 to get hits on their site.

there is no "vista ontop of xp" either.
