IT LIVES!!!!

Well after two and a half years of work on this car, my 78' Ford Pinto Runabout is now banging and all four cylinders.

I had the engine rebuilt including a new camshaft, and the cylinders bored out by 1/4". New pistons and a polished crankshaft.

Here's some pictures...

This Distributor Vacuum Vent Valve had a broken inlet on it and I had to superglue a hose coupler to it to get it working again. Strange enough, no one in town can find a reference part or a record of the part in over 15 books, even the owners and shop manuals! Glad this is holding up!

No, I don't plant on this car blowing up! Ford made a shield that goes around the differential hub back in 77 which stopped the housing bolts from puncturing the fuel tank and leaking gas all over. This was built in 78.

This car has been in the family for 28 years and I plan to restore it, given time.

It's first road trip will be driving down to Utah to visit shard next month.

Looks like that car has been well taken care of, i dont seen any body damage and it sounds like you dumbed a lot into the engine.

edit: Think the guy with the 70' chevy would give up that truck that is across the street. I only want it if its the inline 6cylinder and 3 on the tree.

Hehe. Yeah, it's great. I don't plan to do a licorice dispenser, but I do plan to put some wireless router in there for WOW (Wireless On Wheels), and a laptop shelf from the dash.

It's had on accident in the past. When my mom first got it she backed into this huge barrel BBQ'er and trashed the rear fender on the driver's side, that was back in 78, and she had it replaced before her dad noticed. =P

AMD_Phreak used to drive this when he first started driving and he took it to autobody shop and repainted it from the stock yellow to this metallic blue, which indeed is very nice. Needs a good wash and wax though...

You must live in a warm climate not near the ocean. Arizona or Nevada? I've not seen a non-restored Pinto with that good of a body before. I did once however see a Pinto wagon with a 461 and a blower in it the blower stood higher than the roof line

My uncle has a mercury bobcat drag car, basically the same car as the pinto. Its got a healthy 302 and is in the 11's in the 1/4.

302 swap is nice but can be a pain,if the transmission has problems or headers need to be replaced/installed the motor has to come out fully, starter requires motor removal also.

I'm located in Idaho, but it is pretty dry here.

There is a mercury bobcat body kit avalible for the 77/78 pintos, but I don't plan on going for it. =P All it requires to remove the starter on this is to drop one side of the front "alxe arm" and pull the starter towards the front of the car.

I'm definately going to have some fun wiht this project. The computer upgrades might go on hold for awhile, which definately isn't a bad thing at this point in time for PC technology.
