Sony spokesperson Jonathan Fargher called the report "categorically not true." Fargher went on to state that developers have been working with PlayStation 3 development kits for a time period ranging from eight to 12 months and that any suggestion that the company would downgrade the hardware at this late stage of development was patently "ridiculous."

Hmm wouldn't say confirmed...they haven't exactly given one for testing that proves it will be up to spec, but a good come back to obviously opposition claims.

Doesn't really bother me tho - i'll be buying a Wii :D

They have been shipping beta units for awhile now which have exact same specs as confirmed, but they are in the different casing since they are having same problem as M$ did with fitting PSU inside.

Can Sony make a statement without adverbs? Well fictionly they could. ;)
Man I hope thats true about HD playback. If the PS3 will output HD through component I think Sony might be a little more careful in implementing DRM in its movies and players.

Im not to thrilled about the PS3, The PSP was a letdown and when i just got my DS lite the PSP was a mistake all together. Il just get the wii

=[ i like my psp lol, not going to get ps3 till i have enough money for it and probably wait a year after to get it

I think people have the whole HDMI and component thing mixed up on the PS3.

What I think they were implying originally is that 1080p will only be available through HDMI input and component will run other formats. People like always make an elephant out of ant, just to get some attention.

I'll be happy if it'll do 1080i and 720p over component. There's too much controversy surrounding 1080p at the moment.

I can't believe so many people say things like this on this forum. Often is the time that I see people complain about console to PC ports. They say its too dumbed down, the interface is too simplified, etc...

The DS is absolutely as dumbed down as it gets for gaming and people love it. I know the games are fun, but they are too simple in most cases and it just doesn't have the true portable console gaming experience that the PSP has.

This isn't targeted at you VincentP, but at everyone because I have to ask. Why is it so crappy when its dumbed down and ported from the 360, but its great when its dumbed down for the DS?

The Ds has good games it’s that simple. They are simple, easy, anybody can play them, and you don’t need to commit a large sum of time to games. You can pick up a game and play for a few minutes to a few hours and it doesn’t matter. The touch screen is Amazing ands makes games like the new super Mario bros and warioware touched great fun games that can deliver hours and hours of fun, but again you don’t need to play for a few hours you can play just a few mini games before class starts or before you get off the bus on your way to school or work.

The PSP in which I had a few months ago was nice as I got it the day it came out. I got Tony hawk at first and then I got madden 2006, The Socom, burnout and a bunch of other games. I also heavily modded my PSP's software and use all sorts of emulation and homebrews and such. I watched movies and did remote desktop and a lot of other stuff. All of this was great but there was one general thing that overrode all the fun modding and emulation. THE GAMES SUCKED. There weren’t and still are not any games on the PSP that can deliver the fun of Mario Kart, Any Mario game, Brain Age and of course Zelda. Just the fact that there are Zelda games for game boy advanced is the Killer for other companies, because lets be serious others can’t compete with Zelda.

Wireless on the DS is also easier to use and faster. All Wi-fi software on the DS is written by Nintendo, no matter what game, and then third parties implement Nintendo wi-fi code. To my knowledge on the PS2 and PSP each part makes there own wi-fi code and implements it the way that they choose.

To some the newest Graphics are the best thing around; to me game play is always better. I personally think standard Counter strike is the best game ever made and second is Zelda ocarina of time. I don’t think High end graphics are worth it because to me Games with better graphics suck, as there is just way to much emphasis on the graphics and not on the actual theory of the game and the game play itself.

In general this is why I say the Wii is going to Dominate over the ps3 and the xbox360. People just don’t care about the graphics, only the enthusiasts do. The PS# will sell out and so will the wii, but after the enthusiasts get there systems, we will see that the Wii will dominate due to it being cheaper, having fun games and bring back a Family and friend aspect to games.

Im a engineering student, I spend all day solving math problems, writing code and algorithms. The true last thing i want to do is spend alot of tiume solvingmore problems in games and such. My reason for liking Nintendo alot better,.

This is just my opinion

I kind of think Wario on the GBA is better because the buttons are much more responsive than the stylus, but thats personal preference as is what system is better.

I do think the gameplay thing is overrated and cliche at this point. Great gameplay is very, very subjective and I think some Nintendo games do have great gameplay as do other consoles, but Nintendo 1st party games are fun like addictive internet flash games with very little depth so you get a short intense burst of great gameplay where most console games from 3rd parties or other console manufacturers add more features, longer gameplay, story line, etc to augment the game so you get get a more of a strung out gameplay.

Heck, I don't know. I can get into my favorite titles for the DS for a while, but the excitement wears of pretty quickly. Animal Crossing = an hour at best, New Super Mario = 30 minutes, Yoshi's Touch and Go = 15-30 minutes, etc. The PSP I can play GTA for 2-3 hours, Daxter for 1 maybe 2 hours, Kingdom of Paradise for all day, NBA Live = 1-5 hours lol, etc.

And its not just the cliche gameplay vs. gfx because the gfx are great for a handheld, but they aren't anything to write home about. It seems more like an intense flash game system vs. a system that is a true portable console.

I guess maybe a lot of people here play FPSers till their eyes bleed and simplistic, colorful games would be a huge contrast and a great change of pace and maybe because i play more console games than PC they don't contrast what I play so much so its not such a big deal.

Nintendo = wierd and crazy while PC = conservative and stagnant. Maybe it is because PC games and Nintendo games are at completely oposite ends of the gaming spectrum that a lot of people gravitate to both while shuning the middle of the road stuff.

Hell, I can't figure it out

perhaps the DS is a testamet to the fact that you don't have to have kickass graphics and 2 million bells and whistles to have great games

Finally some good news! There's been way too much PS3/Sony bashing, and all of it is based off rumors. So they released beta PS3s to companies to make games, and they're not in the official PS3 casing...so what? I've only ever heard of companies sending out those types of make-shift cases to companies.

I'm still putting all my hopes in the PS3 release. I'm not going to bother with the Wii, because they have a niche market which really doesn't interest me. I've always gotten the feeling that xbox and PS games were more grownup, and I'm not much for bland arcade games, where the learning curve is almost nil. That's just how I see it though. I'm not going to buy a Wii, unless I plan to ebay one. But I'll be sure to grab a PS3 on release day.

People have just flamed way too much over these releases. There's been almost no hard facts, and never an official statement to back claims up. People need to remember that Sony's development team isn't 4 guys trying to piece together a new console with their spare time, because that's certainly what it seems like many people here think it is.

Also, the PS3 casing looks great! I hope their final design looks close to that!
