91.31 Drivers

Anyone using the new drivers released June 23rd? The new control panel is terrible, and I noticed a frame drop too. Reverted back to 84.21

I always use the XtremeG versions of Nvidia drivers and I didn't like the 91.31 version at all. I hated the new control panel, although I could have gotten used to it, and my games just didn't seem as smooth. My benchmarks also dropped considerably with them so I went back to the XG 84.37's.
If you have a system somewhat like mine you should try the XG 84.37 V2's.

the new control panel worked fine for me, but i ditched the drivers and went back to 84.21 anyway. everytime i booted into windows the 91.31 driver gave me an SLI diabled message or some such (I don't have two vid cards and my mobo doesn't even support it without modding). they also caused the screen to flicker whenever changing resolution or loading up games. a lot of people are having problems with these drivers and it's not the first time nvidia's botched a driver release. i expect there will be new official drivers with bug fixes within a month.

As my rule of thumb, I only change if the driver was designed for it. Looking at your video card, any newer driver will not be an improvment as they're not looking to increase FPS on that video card but rather the newest card out there... 7950GX2. Or rather the 7900 series cards... You may be suprised to know that the 7x.xx driver may work better than the 8x.xx series driver...

Well, thats my understanding of it...

Case in point...

If you go to nvidia.com and download the lastest 84.37 driver for lets say, a TNT2 card... Guess what... it says it can't find your card... Even thought it should work, nvidia has removed the TNT2 line from its drivers... Why? Who really cares... But the 77.xx driver found the card and worked just fine..

The point is, just because its new, does does not mean it going to be better.

When newer drivers come out, the newer features are not for older cards... so you will see a drop in FPS...

I would never install 84.37 drivers for a Geforce 2 or a 3 or a 4. I would go back to when that card was top dog, and download the driver for its time. Why? It WILL run better.

dunno about you guys... but i installed them and they work just fine, control panel works fine, and my fps is just fine, i find no difference in performance going from 84.21's to the 91.31's. Did you guys clean the old drivers properly? And by no difference, i mean at the most +/- 1fps, well within the margin of error, or like ~20 3dmarks.

sure. the issue is probably what joeteck mentioned above - that newer drivers are for newer cards, so your 7600gt will work fine while older cards may not. for the record, performance in games with these drivers was fine with my 6800gt (though i didn't run any benchmarks), despite the other bugs.

I get this problem too... I have PCI-E... do people with PCIE cards get this problem?

Also how do I get the bottom task bar icon back after i click exit???

Ive got a 7800GTX... I havent got a chance to bench yet... Any one notices a performance change with the 7800gtx pcie?

they work fine on my 6800 AGP, too. however i didnt run any benchmarks, before and after, so all im going on for that card is that the control panel works just fine and that there is no noticeable increase or decrease in fps/performance.

I put a computer together for my sister using my brother's old 6800GT AGP and with these drivers it kept giving me that stupid SLI message which confused the hell out of me. I'll try reverting to older drivers. I updated the drivers for my 7900GT and they seemed to work fine though.

If you don't like the new control panel, which I do not, you can revert to the "Classic" view. Simple enough solution for people like me that hate change when it's not broken to begin with.

As you can see I'm still on 81.98's I could update to 84.21's but even with the website saying it's WHQL certified. When I try to install the ones as it requests from the International link it still comes up with the Drivers are not Digitally signed.

As for the 91.31's I'll leave till they have that stupid control panel & SLi balloon bug out.

Slower for GeForce 6 -series than 84.xx drivers but nothing else to complain about.

anyone notice the new dual monitor support for these drivers. It actually extends the task bar across the second screen!!

unfortunatly its only of use if you have two monitors of the same size that support the same refreah rate and you have to have the primary (one with the start bar button) on the left.

Therefore it is literally of no use to me(second moniter on the left, low refresh rate support and differant resolutions), but its still nice to see.

im going back the the 8x.xx series drivers

that's not new. it is available with previous drivers if you choose "horizontal span" as your display mode. so you should still be able to use it with the 84.21 or before. also, the monitors don't have to be the same size, just the same resolution.

I get the SLI ballon too...and my board only has one PCIe slot. Maybe it's a marketing thing since it takes me to information about how great SLI is.....anyway....reverting
