7300gs or 6600?

A friend is putting together i low budget rig and both these cards are in his price range. So which will preform better, 7300gs or a 6600? plz discuss

well from the benchmarks i seen and my buddys 7300gs my 6600 beats him

he scored about 1730 on 3dmark 05 and i hit anywhare from 2724 - 3287 for my record high.

but personaly i would go with the 7300 or 7600 just becuase its a 7 series

The 6600 will beat the 7300gs, it's quite a bit faster actually.

And to the other guy telling him to get it because it's a 7 series... the 7300's are peices of crap, and extremely low budget, they will not benefit much from 7 series technology...

See if your buddy can save up a little more money and pick up a 7600GS, I have been getting around 4800 - 4950 Points in 3dmark05 with my overclocked 7600GS i believe it still gets over 4400 points stock.

My 6600 256meg runs 4347 on 3dmark03 not overclocked and not a GT version

i would take a 7300gt over a 6600.

my agp hit a little over 6100 on 3dmark 03 when i overclocked it.

my buddys brothers 7300gt hits 7652 with stock clocks beating a 6600gt and oc'ed it hits 9123 3600 on 05 stock and 4501 overclocked so personaly i would get the 7300gt for $79 baleave me the extra $10-$20 is worth getting the gt model if a 7600 is out of your price range.

I find your numbers hard to believe. Try those cards on 3DMark 05 you WILL SEE a big deference.
I would go for the 6600GT without question! or save a little more money and get the 7600GS/GT

i dunno, i would have agreed with you if i hadn't googled the specs of the 7300GT.... Now i have to change my opinion, However i will still have to say that a 6600 will beat the 7300GS, the gs is only 4x1,3vp. Now, if you can get a 7300GT for cheaper or near the same as a 6600, then get that... but make sure to get the DD3 model and not the DDR2 model. The DDR3 model clocks in at 8x1,4vp 500mhz Core/1400mhz Mem, those are nice clocks, the memory is 400mhz faster than that of the 6600GT, and with the newer technology it is sure to outperform it, that is my opinion.

also the 7 series handles hdr better. point on half life 2 a 6600gt gets 61.59 and a 7300gt gets 70 81 when overclocked

oblivion 6600gt 26.5 7300gt 35 43 when overclocked

from everything i have seen and red that 7300gt beats the crap out of the 6600gt and better hdr suport helps alot. unless you majorly overclock that 6600gt i still stand by my clame the 7300gt is better. But unless that 6600gt overclocks better than the 7300gt i would go with the 7300gt but i havent seen much about over clocking them and the highest clocks reached becides what i posted here.

Why would nvidia release worse technology and name it a better product.

Your best bet is a 7600 but I can't talk about the 6600 or 7300 as I have no experience with them.

6600... Ive had one for about a 6 months now. I played fear at 100% max settings. And scored 6458 on 3Dmark05 oc'd to 630mb 550coreclock.

i have a 6600GT and i think its a nice card, not the best but it gets the job done.

im sure you can oc it to match a 6800, so id suggest it over the 7300.

Im a huge fan of the Nvidia 6600GT. My card is made by PNY Technologies. This card is amazing. I have seen some of the lower end model of the 7 series do extremely poor compared to my card. I've been able to play some of the more advanced games recently. Oblivion runs very well with medium settings, and Doom 3 is easy. Halo for PC runs flawlessly on this card.

well my 6800 beats the lower end 6600's, but that isn't saying much.. is it? of course a 6800nu will beat a 6600LE, and of course the 6600GT will beat the 7300LE/GS... but the GT isn't "slow", it can match the 6600GT, and the ddr3 model should actually surpass the 6600GT.

6600gt AGP 128mb GETS MY VOTE.... its 17% better than my friends 6800nu PCIe 256mb when i overclock my 6600gt... i can get it up to 626/1282 gettin scores of 10009 in 3dmark03 , 4082 in 3dmark05, and 1639 in 3dmark06... its an amazing card for the money... definetly ALOT BETTER than a pos 7300gs... if you want to go with a 7 series tho grab a 7600gs or gt.. heard they are pretty good.

NO WAY rea you gettin 6458 in 3dmark05 with a vinalla 6600 more like a 3dmark03 score.
