PM Box Proposal

I have a proposal for our PM boxes.

Whenever we recieve PM's, we can't tell at a glance whether it is coming from a regular member/senior/mod/admin (unless we've been here long enough to memorize names/ranks).

I propose we edit the PM box (asked David about it, said it should be easy) to colorize the names of who they are sent from so we know at a glance whether it is a Senior, Mod, Admin, or Regular Member.

according to David, it would be a hack similar to this:

Code:
 [color=$userrankcolour]$userfrom[/color]
Or in his words "or whatever the variables are called"

How about it? This looks good to me.

Sure. It looks pretty cheap.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Then again though I am not the one who would be doing the work, and I am not even sure if the mods of this site have enough power to do that?

I think one of the wiz kids at iNet has to type vi something.php and do a little voodoo, but maybe the Admins can.

Do you want to add this to the pop up message you get too, or just the inbox?

it would be pretty cool if they all displayed the same colors as in posts, make it easier for us to keep track of who is who when we see their color.

Whats the point? I mean if its easy why not, but if its even a slight hassle it really isnt that important.

The point?

1. I can tell at a glance who sent it and thus, what it is likely about.
2. Short of a PM-box filter (which I have yet to find a hack for), this is as close to a filter as can be found.

Why would you want to filter your PMbox?

Well you blue's get more PM's from mod's/ admin's then anyone else. It's mainly something that would help you out. I mean, I get a PM from a mod every so often, but I don't have PM's flowing in so It's not to read it and tell.

If it is a hassel, I say pass. But If it can be done with like one line of code, sure why not.

Trust me.... once you reach senior level... especially if you are active.... you start to wish for a filter to sort the pm's. This is something that would help all members, i think. Yes, it is just a little visual hack, but it'd be nice to know at a glance who sent what, and how urgent it likely may be.

I have been reading most of these posts, and still do not understand why one would need to have the PMs colorized. I would think that the general purpose of the PM is to read them, not ignore them because of a color scheme. In general I read and respond to nearly every PM I get. Color wont/does not mean a thing to me.

Agreed. However, if some people feel the need for it, and it can be done just by changing/adding a few lines of code, why not?

Ghetto... not wanting this as a way to 'ignore' pm's. I read all of them. However, it is nice to know who you are getting them from at a glance, as it tells you what it likely is about.

It still makes no sense to me to colorize them. Blue, Green or Red does not mean that it is any more important than another one. Colorize.. Yea do it, but to me it is only bling without a real purpose, just my opinion..

to me, it has a purpose. Again, I can tell at a glance by the color of sender if it is likely a "hello, whassup?" or a "Can you answer something for me" type thing
