So my mobo's standard tempurature program (Abit EQ) is saying I have some pretty unbelievable temps on my CPU.

I have a A64 3500 Venice overclocked to 3.4, and Abit EQ says I idle at 28/29C..

Mysterious.

What is the most accurate way to monitor temps inside a PC case, including the CPU and system chipsets, and just the ambient air inside the case?

A digital thermometer of some kind (Digidoc,CM Musketeer, etc.) or a thermocouple. For benchtesting I sometimes use a meat thermometer to check the winbond sensor against the actual heatsink temperature to make sure it's seated properly.

Edit: I sometimes idle at 29C using an XP-120 w/ 100CFM. But you may want to make sure you're reading the right winbond sensor.
