I'm looking to upgrade to a duel core so its either going to be a 4200+ (with 512Kb L2 cache) or the 4400+ (with 1MB L2 cache) - both have the same clock speeds of 2.2GHz . . . . . so which should I get? . . . . Will extra L2 make any reel difference?

Cheers

i dunno bout for dual core, but when it comes to single core 1mb l2 cache makes quite a difference, i have a 4000+, and it has a noticeable speed difference over the 3800+ ....so therfore i would be inclined to say get the 4400+......however i have herd from various people that the less l2 cache you have, the better an overclock you can get....personally i would go for the 4400+....

If you will be gamming then more cache mean 1-5% improvement in lower resolutions. If you will do other things then more cache mean nothing. I recomend X2 4200+

i was for that question myself also a couple of months ago and now i have a 4200 and i am happy with it the difference is not so much 2 a 3 precent go for the 4200 its also i huge upgrade from single to dualcore no stuttering or something else:bday:

Most reviews I've read show little to no difference in performance v cache size. The exception to that is high-end gaming and A/V encoding. For $30 more I'd go with the 4400 but if you don't have a need for it use the extra money for better memory ...

I think the X2 4600+ has less cache then the X2 4400+. The only X2's with 2x1MB of L2 Cache is the X2 4400+ and X2 4800+. The X2 4600+ is at 2.4ghz and only has 2x512KB of L2 Cache.
