i think.... maybe...might be really cool.
the only question for me would be how well it would O/C. -?

i know so far, that 865 is mature and whoops on 965/975 conroe boards ive seen so far.

i allso know how to deal with it.
only question is - how well will it overclock?

heard about no voltage adjustments for asrock. is that true?
if so -
couldnt that be a hardware mod on this board like most other vdroop mods and the like?

bear in mind - its a northwood/prescott chipset.
overclocking the snot out of them is nothing holy.

and bear in mind - ties to asus and the possibility that there might be an equivalent asus design floating around...

worth looking into?

it is worth looking into if you still have a good agp card such as the 7800gs or the gainward 7800gs bliss+. not sure on ati cards so i will let someone else speak for those. Asrock mobos are cheap for a reason so dont expect alot of ocing. With C2D's we are seeing nice fsb's long before a voltage bump is needed. how ever if you were to read the intel whitepaper on the pin lay out. you could "pen" the cpu and tricking the mobo to supply more voltage despite no bios voltage control.

so all i would really need for conroe, and lots of fun with it:

1. 865 conroe board such as asrock.
2. a good AGP card.
3. "special" paint pen from auto parts place.

and of course, the conroe.

this sounds like cheap childs play.

what am i missing?

is it really this easy?
(except for the fact that the board might or might not exist yet?)

you need a "silver contuctive pen" i think you can find them at radioshack. the only down side is the max fsb for asrock mobo's for ocing is around 300mhz.

cant find any etailers atm that carry it. give it about a 2-6wks, they might not be fully ready yet.

post numba one brutha!
heh. im blind too.

i like the idea, but 300FSB on stock volts on 865 asrock being LOW?

to get that on this board (sig), i would have to survive a fall off a cliff, while being struck by lightning, after somehow getting coated in napalm and landing in the flaming wrackage of a recent plane crash.

no one is that lucky.
do you know something i dont?

because 300FSB on an 865 asrock?... wow...
references?
you will be my hero if its for real.

im guessing on the fsb numbers as gauntam here has a VIA chipset conroe board from asrock that toped out around that. there are no hard numbers you can buy it yet. like i said give it some time, intel is more then likely appling some pressure for them to not sell 865 chipset mobos just yet.
also if you got something like the e6600 @300fsb could be a nice boost. if really on the cheap wait for the e4300 to come out 8x multi @ 800fsb so you would then get more of an oc out of. The cpu is said to be around $150 mark with release sometime in Q4-06.
