PC wont detect new HDD

I just bought a new 40gb seagate barracuda (SATA) to begin learning Linux with. I put it in the case, plugged it in, and my BIOS recognized it. I booted up windows and went into my computer, but there was no new hard drive! So i went to install new hardware, and it found it right away, but said it was already installed and working properly.

I dont have a clue why it wouldn't work if my BIOS detects it and so does windows. I just can't see it in my computer, and I cant access it either.

any ideas?

Cool thanks a lot, looks like that did it.

Basic disk is used for extended partitions, primary partitions, and logical drives.
Dynamic is used more with raid like mirroring and striping.
