projector - standby or shut it off?

I use it very rarely - maybe once a month - but if I leave it unplugged, I lose my settings. Is leaving it on standby going to shorten its life?

Probably not. The lamp is the shortest lived part in the projector. When it is in standby the lamp is turned off.

I wouldnt leave it on for that long with no use...cant be that hard to redo settings can it? The bulb will burn out quicker but that should be the only harm.

I don't believe the bulb is being used in standby. The projector would be hot if it was.

Standby should be fine. However make sure you are actually putting it into standby mode and not just turning on the "black screen" feature most projectors have as that still uses the bulb and it will burn out quickly.
