~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Again, Thanks for taking the time to allow me to interview you.
When did you join the Team? Approximate date is ok if you don't know the specific date.
Started my folding journey on March 9th, 2003. First folding scrum here was back around October 1st, 2005.
If there was something recent that you did that you wanted your fellow teammembers to know about, what would it be?
Hooked up my old Atari 2600 and Colecovision to the big screen and proceeded to teach my Kindergarten aged son how to game "old school" style.
What is your EOC (extremeoverclockers) stats link?
Macaholic and Me
You do not have to give specifics (address), but what State do you live in, and if you don't mind telling, what town? (town is not required, but if not a town, a general direction and distance from the nearest 'big town/city' would suffice)
Le Roy, IL or 40.32N -88.77W (Elev. 751 ft) which is 20 miles SE of Bloomington, IL or 38 miles NW of Champaign, IL
How did you initially hear about F@H?
I really got tired of Classic SETI@home re-analyzing the same data over and over and over with no obvious results. Proceeded to look around at the merits of other DC projects and decided folding was more than worthy of all my CPU cycles.
After starting, why do you continue to Fold?
For family members (past, present, and future), scientific merits, and competition.
What do you do for a living?
All those that have seen the 1976 movie thriller Marathon Man and the 1986 comedy Little Shop of Horrors raise your keyboards. Now, "Is it safe?" or "You'll be a _______!"
What do you do for fun?
Build computers and tweak them. Forum hop. Press the refresh button on the stats pages. Show, shine, and tune my 1966 Signalflare Red, numbers matching, fully loaded, ball-hauling Mustang GT Convertible. It even folds!
Is there anything special you do in your spare time that you really enjoy?
Teaching my children about the beauty and wonder of nature and respecting it.
Time to spill your guts. What are the stats of your main folding rig? Why is it your fave? What all do you use the rig for?
Too many to list here. I enjoy them all. Mainly all they do is fold, fold, fold! Really hard to single out any one in particular. But, if pressed I would say my 20" iMac Core Duo 2.0GHz, 2GB Dual Channel 667 DDR2 SDRAM, ATI Radeon X1600/256MB VRAM, SuperDrive 8x (DVD+R DL/DVD+RW/CD-RW), 250GB Serial ATA drive. Why? Because it runs OS X and Win XP Pro thanks to the marvel of Boot Camp, and only uses 95 Watts of power while folding full bore on 2 CLI clients (55 Watts if you put the monitor to sleep)!
Do you have a Borg-Farm? If so, how many computers, and what are they? (CPU, RAM)
Does a bear ____ in the woods?! Oh, um, yes. Yes, I do. Total of 56 if I recall correctly. Little bit of everything, but I have a hankerin' for Dual processing. Dual G5s, Dual G4s, G4s, G3s, Core Duos, Pentium M, A64 X2s, Athlon MPs, Dual Xeons, P4 Northwoods. For now. You can see some pics here.
What are your future goals? What do you most want to accomplish with your life?
Give my children purpose and conviction.
If there is something you want to tell the team, then spill your guts! What have I missed in my questions that could help the team learn more about you and who you are?
I think I unloaded both barrels already. Thanks for the interview.
It's great to get to know you a little better, Macaholic. But I don't quite understand what you do for a living; I've seen both movies and I remember them questioning Dustin Hoffman in the dentist's chair asking him that question, but the only thing I remember about "Little Shop" was Seymour saying "Feed Me!"
No, I really don't remember. I guess I'll have to watch the film again because it's been at least 10-15 years since I saw it.
Steve Martin played the comical pain inflicting dentist, Dr. Orin Scrivello D.D.S. Funny as hell! Unless you're in his operatory!
Just having fun seeing how much three puny Core 2 Duo machines can produce. Probably add a fourth by the end of the week.
That's why they make a convertible model as well. Not so cramped then. HTT? It's a 289 Premium Fuel engine. Only thing faster would be the optional 289 Hi-Po engine. You know, the one with the "Shelby touch"? Those original 289 Hi-Po ponies are EXTREMELY hard to find.
