Hey all, im kinda torn with the big decision here, currently am seeing all the issues with overclocking on the new boards/procs, hitting walls ect, constant bios released that may or may not fix the issues, ect.. My 920 is runnin 4.5 use it mainly to game with, burn dvd's, ect, have it in a P5WD2-E, with 4x512 OCZ 6400, 2 X1900's crossfired, and its a great machine. I am torn with getting a Conroe, or getting a 960, and try to get the 960 over 5gig, the 960 is $40 cheaper than the 6600, but i know the 6600 will trounce it in all aspects...

So is it wise for me to comptemplate the 960, or should i hold out till the RD600, and get a conroe??

Help?? Opinions wanted please....

Well he has a X1900 CF setup, I don't think he wants to give that up. So a 975X board is what you want, unless you want to wait for an RD600 which may actually be a good idea for you. Otherwise I think the P5W DH is still the best of the 975X's out.

Definatly gonna stick with my current crossfire setup... Shoulda got the 960 from the Egg yesterday, it was $317, today its $359, ugh.....:bang head

Be glad you didn't... buying any chip but a Core 2 Duo is a waste of cash IMO... Core 2's are that much better. Just get a new 975x mobo... you can run your 920 in there until you want to upgrade your cpu, and still have crossfire ;)

O and regarding the ATI chipsets, I would stay away personally for now, it seems there will be no more after the RD600 and likely limited support due to AMD buying ATI...

Hands down the E6600. A 960 @ 5ghz, that would be emitting some SERIOUS heat. E6600 does it faster, with lower clocks and less heat.

I really think upgrading from a 920 to a 960 at this point would be like buying a 1993 Honda Civic to replace your 1992 Honda Civic.

And for you:
Conroe/Allendale for the win! E6300 for 2mb cache choice or E6600 for 4mb cache choice. My personal favorite is the 6600.. Clocked up to 3.1 ghz, stock vcore, stock heatsink and fan.

Welcome to the conroe or allendale club. :)

:welcome: And a wonderful club it is!

I got up to 2.8ghz today on STOCK air by accccccident! I was just killing time, playing with setfsb, and running Pi. Once I hit 2.8ghz the temps actually started going DOWN!

Free enterprise my friend...

And I've got a 7600GS to replace an AWFUL 6200 and a decent 9600pro. That's still kind of a mid range card... but with all that CPU power backing it up... I don't see any problems playing any game I want creeping up anytime soon.

(Prey was just ridiculous and crazy enough for me to want to own... but my video card came with Serious Sam, so I'll probably check that out :santa: )

I might trip over my mouse and make my E6400 faster than the 960 at 5ghz.

Get an ASUS P5W DH DELUX..... lowest price that i have found is here ---> http://www.antaresdigital.com/customer/product.php?productid=17241&cat=0&page=1

better get em while you can they JUST got a BIG shipment of them in TODAY... i ordered mine on saturday @ 244!!! price is going up!!!

a stock E6600 will blow the crap out of a 960... period thats just how it is... i mean a 960 MAY have a change at 5+ ghz compared to a stock e6600... but ocd e6600 AHAHA that would be like a toyota 4 banger dragracing a Shelby GT500 with a 525CI big block V8 with a supercharger pumping out 725hp!
