want to revert from latest dvd firmware to earlier version

I've got a laptop dvd burner, and the latest firmware update seems to have made it not recognise blank discs, with any burning program. Basicly I want to revert from the latest, installed version, to the earlier version (only 2 are available), but the update program for the earlier version won't allow me. How could I do this?
