mass buy of conroe?

Ok, so here's an Idea I've had. Not sure on much of the details, as it is still in the idea stage.
1. Figure out a supplier that sells intel chips, and the cost per chip, and how much you save when buying massive quantities.
1a. We need someone who has a business lic. from their state to be able to apply to said supplier.

and after price surfing, to see if it is worthwile:
2. make a post getting orders on the forum
3. make the order (when the quantity of orders match up)
4. ship into whoever is the nice guy, and he distributes.

I think they sell in lots of 1,000, so thats a lot of work. Maybe the person who would volunteer for this could be compensated $1 more per chip (and whatever parts we decide on). Another key part is shipping. I work at FedEx, and get 75% off of shipping items. We would have to figure out how to work things out to save the most money. IDK if FedEx would be pleased at loosing Thousands of dollars on a deal like that....but hey, this is just an idea.

anyone able to push this idea forward?
Comments, suggestions, Flames?

This is called a group buy, and would never work with quanities that big on a forum this small. And goog luck trying to get ot or something awful to come up with the cash.

It would probably work if we could get a smaller quantity. I'm not even sure we could do 500. Of course everyone would have to prepay before the order was placed so the orderer isn't stuck with a truckload of CPUs and out a truckload of cash. If we had the cash up front, I would be more than happy to place the order.

sounds good. but do you have access to a supplier? I know AMD uses Ingram, but I havent researched Intel's suppliers...
you know, that'd be sweet if someone at newegg was a t32 folder, and decided to give us a wholesale price for conroe folding gear

You might speaking with tankguys. I'm not saying they will give you anything but I'm saying they know stuff. They might be able to point you in the right direction.

quick question?? wouldnt everyone have to agree on a single processor though since they sell them in 1000 quantities?? ex:: 6300, 6400, 6600, etc... i thought about this for a bit and would be willing to jump in, but trying to group 1000 people together just seems highly improbable. g/l though.

I can't believe nobody has thought of that! Can you order bulk in different CPUs or would they all definately have to be the same? If we could get them cheap enough I think getting everyone to agree on the same one would be pretty easy.

I would certainly buy one. I vote for the e6600 if we can only get one kind.

that is a good suggestion that I was looking for!

well, I cant imagine that if we could get the 6600's for $150 each that people would be whining about getting a 6300 instead....

You won't get them for anywhere NEAR that

If you buy in large quantities, you *might* get pricing ~$324 range.

Sounds good? Well... how will people pay for them? That's a logistical issue right there. Credit card? Add 2.9% (or so, averaging Visa/MC/Amex) to the price, so you're up to $333. You could save money paying by check, but you're looking at at least a 2 week wait for all the checks to fully clear.

Next, I can promise you one thing: If you bought in enough quantitiy to get that price, you're looking at a few hundred boxes. Packing that many is a royal pain, and whoever does it would likely want more than $1/box to do so.

Finally, what about liability? What if there is a shipping error? What if something goes missing, or someone fails to pay? What if someone defrauds all of you? Etc. Etc.

Once you factor all this into your "group buy" price, it starts getting *real* close to just paying retail... trust me, I know, I see how horrible my profit margins are
