Conroe e6600 Voltages + P5W DH

Im just wondering if it would be "safe" to go above 1.55v for an e6600 in order to get the 4ghz overclock that some people have been getting. This setup would be on watercooling, and I would keep the cpu for about 2 years, maybe less. I know the rule of thumb is not to go over 15% voltage increase, but can these intel chips take the beating?

You aren't going to see a 4 GHz overclock on water, at least not even remotely stable. 3.3-3.6 is what to expect. With that said, I personally feel that high voltages are safe. Intel has been using the 65nm process for a while, and Conroe is on no less than its 6th stepping. Thus, the kinks and weaknesses should be ironed out.

so all these people who reach 4ghz are just getting lucky? even if i crank in 1.6volts into the beast? What are the mex voltages that i could put into the conroe that will have the cpu last at least 2 years lol.

I can do 3.71 pretty easily on my p5w dh. Note that you need decent ram to get this stable at this speed. i'm running 3.6 24/7 on water, never see over 46c load temps using core temp.

How much voltage are you giving your 6600 ?

I want to know how much voltage I can/should throw at my 6600 on water ? Right now I am at 1.5625 @ 3.4. I want to know should I push it higher ?

at 3.6ghz (400x9) i'm pushing 1.45v set in bios.

try setting vFSB to 1.3 and you shoudl be able to get the same clocks with less voltage. Also max MCH voltage.

...Vfsb has never made any perceptable difference in any of the last 3 ASUS boards I've owned - Interesting. I assumed there was some reason it was in BIOS - somebody must need to adjust it.

Still makes no diff on any of 4 CD2s I tried with the P5W-DH.

I honestly won't run 1.55v 24/7 under full load if I'm going to keep it for 2+yrs regardless the cooling method.

just my 0.02

Yeah, I think you just got a great chip. I tried those settings and I can't get above 3.4Ghz and be stable.

So... what is the highest 24/7 voltage one should use ?

3.65 is as high as I can get mine stable... with 1.55v. On water too. I can boot at close to 3.9 and run superpi at 3810 but stable is only 3.65.

I guess I got lucky then? I have noticed that vFSB made mine more stable, so i'm assuming it does something. Oh and before i got my teamgroup ram I could only do 370 fsb... my new ram with the D9's allowed for a much higher overclock.

Does the new ram help even with a divider or only when using it 1:1 ?

Right now I am using Corsair 5400 1Gb (2 x 512mb). Would getting new memory make a difference as far as overclocks ?
