You are over quota!

Just got this in my e-mail from (overquota@columbus.rr.com) Warning: Your e-mail storage quota has been exceeded. This quota includes all folders, not just your Inbox. Please save your e-mail to your PC and remove it from the server or new e-mail may not be received. This message is auto-generated please do not reply. Now my ISP is @indy.rr.com so I am suspicious of this, as many virus or trojan riddin e-mails come from @columbus.rr.com. I checked that address and it takes you to a spyware comparison site none of which I have ever heard of. I had maybe 10-15 e-mails in the Inbox and 84 in the deleted folder. Does this sound legit?

Get on the phone, call your ISP and tell them about this. If it's legit, they'll let you know. If not, you'll be helping them out by informing them.

Sounds like spam to me. Honestly, I don't pay any attention to any e-mail from an ISP other than my own. If it were me, I would just disregard and delete.

Sounds more like a crapy attempt at malware.

Yea that's what I'm thinking, still recieving e-mails. Regardless I will still contact my ISP since all my bogus papal messages along with lame CIA pron warnings and various trojan and worm infested e-mails seem to all come from columbus.rr.com. Thanks for the quick responses all.

As I tell Faculty, Staff and Students almost every day. It's not the # of e-mails that will trigger Quota related e-mails, but it's the SIZE of the e-mails. *sigh* Trying to get people to understand that is extremely frustrating. Also, sent mail counts as well.

Well thats interesting to know, the funny thing is though I only send out 2-5 e-mails a month and recieve maybe that many a week. However I did fix a friends computer last week he was so happy, apparently he has'nt been able to use it for a month, that he sends a half dozen stupid e-mails with attachments every other day. I never open the attachments and immediatly delete the messages so maybe thats it. I have also maintained this account for at least five years, so maybe there is some old stuff I don't know about, many computers have come and gone in those five years. Still I'll contact my ISP tomorrow and maybe block my friends e-mail address too, never had a problem like this before. Also I only have two contacts in my address book, my mothers and my boss, I just do'nt do the e-mail thing.

There is no need to block anyone. Just delete anything you don't want. Quotas are based on size on disk, including deleted items in the recycle bin. So just permanently delete anything you don't need and see if it helps.
