cant access files with different OS. please help

i installed windows vista on my d: partition and for some reason, i cant access my files on C:. it says i probably dont have the proper privileges to open them. anyone have any idea on whats going on? thanks

edit: i think this may be dealing with the same root problem: vista basically acts as if none of the programs previously installed with windows 2000 exist. when i open add / remove programs, it shows absolutely nothing but programs i installed when i had vista

Best bet is to find out if the file system is the same... In other words, is all ntfs, or FAT 32?

idk how it works on vista... but heres how to do it on XP:

Go to folder options, disable SIMPLE FILE SHARING, right click the floder you want access to, click the security tab.

Click adcandced, click the owner tab, set your account as the owner.

Is c strictly a storage drive/partition, or does it have another OS installed on it as well?

if i am reading this correctly, you think that your programs that are installed on your 2000 install should show up on your vista install?
it doesnt work like that, they are 2 separate OS's and each require their own install of applications and software
