How do I format my external HDD?

OK, I got this external HDD, its a WD2500JS SATA HDD, I am going USB into the comp. The comp recognizes the USB device, but it does not show up in My Computer at all. It shows the location as Location 0 when I look at the device properties. Besides the fact that I need to format it, How do I get into it to format it?

Never owned an external, but try going to Disk Management after right clicking My Computer and Manage and it may show there and allow you to format it.

Yes, it should be listed in Disk Management.

i've effectively got the same problem (thread called Need help resurrecting an Ex-iPod HDD) it doesn't appear in drive management

did you set the jumpers right on the external drive?

I got into it from the computer management page. I did a search(which I should have done first) in the forum, and got it all squared away. Thank you for the assistance.
