Ripping vinyl records ... and soudcards

We have a massive record and want to get most of it onto PC, I'm also after a new sound card .... something sweet so i'm thinking kill two birds with one stone. What i'm looking at is the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum with its front panel control bay and RCA jacks on the front.

Will I be able to just rip the records onto PC by plugging in to RCA jacks? What will the quality be like? Also whats the actual sound card like?

Thanks in advance ... peace

If you are talking about connecting a record player directly to your PC I can tell you it won't work. The sound needs to be pre-amplified first. You will have to run it to a stereo receiver and then from the receiver to the PC. You won't be ripping, you will be recording the record as you play it. Records have a lot of hiss and extraneous noise, particularly if they are old and scratched, so you will need a program to clean up the sound. Once you do that, the sound quality is pretty good. It is a time consuming process. Good luck with it.

That looks very convenient, would be nice to find some old Pink Floyd records and record them. They sound better on vynil .

I have this
http://www.amazon.com/TC-750-Audioph...&s=electronics

works pretty good, and I'm assuming you have a pretty good record player already.

It has to go through a preamp first, or be from the preamp outputs of a reciever. The signal has to go through the phono equalization stage, so PHONO in and AUX out
