Anyone still playing EQ1 ?

A few friends and i are going to try playing EQ1 again, just wondering if anyone else is still playing and what you think of the current game state ?

It has sure been a long time, I hope the game's ancient graphics dont ruin it hehe.

I've been EQ free for almost two years now. However, I know several people that remain active. The graphics have actually held up pretty well over the years and it can still be fun to play. Some servers got eliminated via consolidation, but it has stabilized and there's a pretty dedicated community remaining.

However, there is a major problem imo. Characters and equipment have changed so much over time that the vast majority of old content is trivial. What used to take a raid of 30 or more people to kill can now be solo'd in some cases. Solo'ing red mobs beyond level 10 or so used to be suicide for most classes, now it's standard to level that way all the way up to max.

Does that make sense? I guess what I'm trying to say is mudflation has essentially taken any skill factor out of the game, and now obtaining experience or items is strictly a function of time invested. All that's left to EQ1 is the grind. At first this is kind of cool because you walk around feeling untouchable, like a god. But that quickly wears off and there's no challenge to keep me interested.

That's why I quit two years ago, and things have only gotten worse since according to my friends.

I suspected that might be the case and am saddened to hear it is so
Hmm, maybe time to find a new game to try instead of trying to relive the ole glory days lol.

Tried WoW but didnt play past the free month, game was just to simple for my liking.

Do you still have to pay for EQ1? If so, what's the point?

Yes, you do. But most everyone I know that plays one of SOE's games has the All Access subscription level. It costs a few dollars more per month, but they can play any of SOE's MMO games. So if you like EQ1 or EQ2 or SWG, you can pay a few dollars more and get all 3 (plus the others from SOE).

People in EQ1 nowadays don't understand just how easy they have it lol. I still remember trying to save up enough money to buy a fine steel longsword from a vendor. I remember when the only way to meditate was with the spell book open so you couldn't see anything on the screen (this was before custom themes for the UI). I remember when basically the only way to level got to the point where you were sitting in Sol B or Lower Guk shouting in the zone about looking for a group and asking to be put on the "list" for whichever area you were trying to get into. I remember the HUGE lizard trains in Cazic Thule temple or in Unrest with zombies and hags galore...

Ahhhh...good times
