I have decided to upgrade my computer. I have not been in touch with the latest and greatest products for about a year now. I understand they now have 240 pin memory modules and also now have Athlon Socket AM2. I am currently using a DFI Lanparty NF4 SLI-D with the 939 socket and 184 pin. I am wanting to upgrade my ram to 2 x 1GB. I can't seem to find the ram I want in the 184 pin catagory so was thinking to go to the 240 pin. But to do this I believe I need to change motherboards to support that type of ram.

My question is this. With my current CPU being Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ can I use this mother board with my current CPU.

It does say it supports Athlon 64 X2 but what confuses me is that fact it says it is a AM2 socket and not a 939 socket.

Second question is this. What is the major difference beside money between these two mother boards:

and

Socket AM2 and 939 are not compatible both in terms of memory and CPU. The board you linked to:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136014

will only work with DDR2 memory and a socket AM2 processor. It will NOT work with a socket 939 processor.

The difference between the two boards at the bottom of your post is that this one has the NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra chipset, while this one has the NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP chipset.

You may wish to hold off upgrading at this time if possible, as there's no appreciable performance difference between S939 and AM2 and you're looking at a significant investment to purchase both new RAM and an equvalent processor to your S939 4400+. If you really need more memory for your current system, you can find it here.

what are you looking for in particular for the 184 pin ram i mean i just bought 2gb of OCZ gold series DDR500 for 200 even so i mean there are plenty of good 184 pin stuff still out there

if all you want to upgrade is the memory, you can usually find some good deals in the classified section.
