Hey there guys. I was wondering which card is the better card? I'm kinda ATi- oriented, as I've always had good experiences with ATi. I'm trying to decide on what video card to get- the X1950 Pro or the 7950GT or the 7900GTO? Also, whats the difference between the X1950 Pro and the X1900 XT or XTX?

yes, i read the thread here- :) http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=484371

Based off my current knowledge, here's what I would get:

7950GT > 7900GTO > X1950 Pro.

The 7950GT and 7900GTO have 512mb of memory each, while the X1950 Pro has 256mb. I believe that the GTOs were the cards with the messed up memory chips, so I would pick the 7950GT over that for the overclock potential (Correct me if I'm wrong on this).

The difference between the X1950 Pro and the X1900XT is that it has (if Newegg's specs are correct):

-12 pipelines as opposed the the X1900's 16
-Slightly slower stock clocks (varies, but probably around 580-600 I think)
-Slightly slower memory clocks (I think it's 1400)
-Less pixel shaders, that kind of stuff
-256 mb memory compared to the X1900's 512
-Fits in one slot, compared to the X1900's two

Hope this helps a bit.

Well the GTO is just an underclocked GTX but good luck getting one as they are sold out at most places online except for Ebay whichh charge over $300+shipping for one!

I just put an X1950 Pro in my system and I must say I am quite impressed. I played DOD Source for hours at 1680x1050 with full AA and HDR and it ran very smooth even on a full server. The fan is fairly quiet as well. I will put it through the Oblivion test tomorrow if I get time.

I will probably return this card though because I read rumors somewhere that there will be a 512mb flavor soon which will be a good bang for the buck. Since I am running in widescreen I need that extra memory.

thanks dreamtfk.... let me know how the Oblivion test turns out. The way I see it, either the X1950 Pro or the X1900XTX will be a nice little upgrade over my lowly X800GTO2 flashed to a X850XT lol

just buy the 8800 little bit more dough but i bet it will be worth it.i regreat buying the 7900gt and not wating for 8800

You're recommending spending well over $500 compared to the $200 he was looking at? Yes the 8800 is good, but you do have to take price into account.

Also, I think you should look into the x1900xt, as it is not much more in price and is slightly faster than the new 1950pro (note: the 1950xtx is better than both).

Nowadays you can get an open box X1900XT for a little over $200. That IMO is your best bang. = )

Tru. Now that the 8800 has been released I am waiting for the upper mainstream cards to follow, I really want to be ready for DX10 games when they start rollling out.
