Thought about it and since I've kinda blown my money on the Kid's computer rebuilds I decided to upgrade my processor to the X2 4600+ 939 and stay with this system for awhile longer.

So, how has the 4600 been in OCing?

Ps. Pretty proud of the rebuild on my son's computer:
ASUS K8V-MX Socket 754 VIA K8M800
AMD 64 3400+ venice 754 2.4
XFX 7600gs
TT TR2 430w PSU
OCZ Gold pc3200 2x512
TT Volcano 12
WD 160gig sata 3g
Packed in an older Chieftec case with 4-80mm fans

I haven't had much time to oc it but have it at 2652! That is 1mhz over my rig lol. Stable and cool.

you should get 2.6-2.9ghz =) have fun ovcerclocking a new system I like overclocking my self better than gaming

I do to
but unfortunetly with wife and 3 kids I don't get the time required for the killer OCing.

Kinda concerned looking at other threads about temps with the 4600+. Reports of 50+C Heck I use 50C as my danger threshold....
I haven't had a proc hit that since my old T-bred days with POS heatsinks.

If you havnt bought it yet, look into Opteron 170 for $189, or 175 for $234.
Its cheaper than 4600, has 2x1gig L2 cache, and most probably OC better too.

Stock vCore I am hitting 2.65 and temps dont change at all. However pumping up the volts makes a big differnce, although my PWMs get hotter then my CPU still. 50C is my danger line too.

with your BT you should be just fine . I have a 4400+ it runs a bit hot but after taking the ihs off im @ a load temp of 42 (on the hotest of the 2 cores) @ 1.58v and 2.75 ghz .

I dont think temps will get out of hand unless you start feding it major volts (above 1.6)

I considered that but after seeing oc complaints from the recent batches I decided on the Athlon.
It is probably being picked up from NE as we speak and since it is coming from the TN warehouse should be here tomorrow(gotta love NE!)

Well, got her up and running. Letting her break in a bit before I push harder.

currently at 12x225=2700

Folding on both cores. Temp 39C.

I just got my 4600+ last week and took it straight to 2.8ghz stable @ 1.40v..Rock solid so far temp >50c..
