My external hard-drive supports eSATA.

I've installed the little bracket in the pci slot, and connected it to a sata slot. From the bracket I used a long sata cable to connect it to my external hard drive.

Now my question: Previously I was using the USB port on this external hard drive, mainly for convenience with turning drive on an off. What do I have to do differently now that I am using eSATA. Since I do not plan on having this external drive on all the time, what should I do to properly disable the drive before removing it? Is it enough to simply stop it from the "Safely Remove Hardware" box, or is that not enough?

Is there any damage being done by frequently "cold booting" a sata device while the system is already in windows.
