PS3 line robbed, one man shot in Putnam, Conn. hold-up

Quote:
PUTNAM, Conn. — Two armed thugs tried to rob a line of people waiting to buy the new Playstation 3 gaming console early Friday and shot one who refused to give up the money, authorities said.

The two confronted 15 to 20 people who were in line outside a Wal-Mart store shortly after 3 a.m. and demanded money, said Lt. J. Paul Vance, a spokesman for the state police. The new Sony consoles are selling for around $500 to $600.

''One of the patrons resisted. That patron was shot,'' Vance said.

thats the first thing that popped into my head as well. Most people will be writing a check, using a debit card, or using a credit card.

EDIT: This stuff is also getting really stupid. Not the buyers, but the retail stores. they KNOW the demand for these items are ALWAYS huge. the 360 had its share of problems with the law, when stuff like this happened before.

you would THINK that the store managers would come up with SOME idea, as to how to keep the buyers safe, and keep their store's safty in check as well.

the walmart near me had the people line up/ camp out in the lawn and garden center. its away from the regular shoppers, as to not be in their way, its a heated room ( though, it DOES get cold in there, i know...i used to work there ), and at night, the doors are locked from the outside. aka: people can still walk OUT, but can't walk in. it makes it 10x harder for someone to sneak in with a gun.

Either way, the 24/7 stores don't have as much of a problem...unless they force people to stay OUTSIDE. its the stores that close at 10/11/12 o'clock. They all dismiss the buyers as lunitics, tell them to screw off and let them freeze outside. the stores could at LEAST come up with SOME sort of idea.

ps. some of the buyers ARE lunitics for waiting outside in the friggin winter, while its raining ice cold rain. i'm not dismissing that. I just think that some of the retail stores should try to HELP, in SOME way, shape or form. simply because if something DOES happen at their store, they get all mad because the media is reporting something bad there. and it makes the store look like it has no security at all. and in the end, everyone gets hurt.

i just think stores should be a bit more ready for releases like this, because this ALWAYS happens, and they KNOW stuff can get out of hand.
