Game Cube freeze up?(Lego Star Wars 2)

Last night my daughter and I cleared out one of the levels in freeplay. To my horror the Cube froze and began humming. I was just entering a door either to end the level or get to the last part of the level. Thankfully I didn't throw the thing out the window.

My question is. Is this a common occurence for the gamecube or this game. Or is this a rare thing to have happen.

Mine freezes up sometimes while playing FIFA 06, and FIFA: Road To The World Cup. It just freezes, and starts making a humming sound from the speakers.

Have ya'll tried taking a can of air to the cube? Might be dusty.

/OT Krome what does the GC look like on our monitor? I might be getting one just for smash bros and mario kart.

I've never had that happen to my GC. That's not saying that it doesn't happen ('cause clearly, it does).

It might be sloppy coding on the game producer's part. Have you tried that level since? Does it always freeze up around there?

How 'bout ventilation? Does your GC have enough room to breathe?

I've had pretty much all my consoles lock up at one time or another during a game, except for the GameCube and DreamCast, but PCs do the same thing.

The only time my cube would freeze up was during NFS: Hot Pursuit or NFS: Underground. Any other games (Metroid Prime - no save points anybody) would go for weeks on end with no problems. My guess is poor programming, not faulty hardware.

Its just sitting in the open ONI. Gonna try that level again, if it happens again (after an hour of time between saves) The kid's gonna need a new Wiii.

I went with the GC version of Lego2 because the PC version only used one controller. It stunned me that it would happen to a console. Not a big user of the GC so I have no experience with freeze ups. I know the PC version of the first game never received a single patch so maybe its the game.

Metroid Prime and this game are the only 2 in three years. Had good luck with Metroid no freeze ups. Just like you.

Thanks for the feedback folks makes me lean toward programming. As the prob.

I haven't cleaned mine, but I think it's w/ FIFA in general.

/OT Doesn't lQQk too hot, I'm using a S-VHS cable and it's really bad. My GC isn't the model that has the component output, so I couldn't tell you how that lQQks.

i had a similar problem with X-Men 2: Age of Apocolypse. Got to a certain level, and would freeze every time we accessed a certain part of the map (critical to finishing the level).

The Lego's game is just buggy. Entered the Jabba the hut level, and at one point needed to place three blocks to get R2 up on a ledge/ramp. Moved them around to find the right spot for them. The second tallest block hovered in the air for a while and then zipped offscreen, effectively wasting another 2 hours for me.
