i have a a8n sli motherboard, 2g ram, 3800x2 dual core cpu amd, 7900gtx oc.
i clock my card 680/870 its stable tested on 3dmark but its not smooth when i run it even on stock settings. my 6600gt runs smoother but low score. i think it my be my 7900gtx card is faulty. also clock the cpu 2g to 2.5ghz its smooth. it might be my temperature the cpu is 58*c and gpu is 58*c making the game running not smooth temp. that high when playing games.
i tried to play gothic 3 and i put the settings on medium and its still not smooth. could it be my cpu holding me back or is it just a faulty card i got.
please help!!!
thanks

Gothic 3 plays horribly, also on my RIG.

I used to have the same setup as you (3800x2,2gb RAM, 7900gtx).

What other games have you tried? Try, for example, BF2 and try playing at 1600x1200 with 2xAA and 16xAF (set in the Nvidia control), and you should stay arouund 70-95fps in Wake Island 2007 on a normal size server (not a 64 person server!) :D

Also, have you tried 3dmark06? You should get around 6800-7400 in 3dmark06, especially if you OC the CPU.
Oh, and my mobo was an Asus SLI Premium with the 1011 BIOS.

i can play bf2 and fear fine. but with hi def games like oblivion not good. i havent tried never winter nights yet hope that runs good. for 3dmarko6 i get 6200 - 6300 score.
suck when you pay alot for gpu and it cant run games smooth

Oblivion is just a horribly running game. my 7800gtx I used to have would only get about 28-30fps 1280x1024 with most settings on high. ;)

OC your 3800x2 and you'll probably be doing much better. :D

By the way, what kind of power supply do you have?

True Power 2.0 550W psu
does it really matter what psu you have??? as long its over 500w right.
for Oblivion its nasty i cant play games that not smooth!!!
could it be my motherboard??? i know my cpu is holding me back i think ill upgrade when the 8800gtx is a decent price.

I haved played Oblivion using a 7800gtx, 7900gtx, and a 7950gx2. The only card I found reasonable performance was on a 7950gx2.

Don't test your PC by Oblivion, as Oblivion runs horribly as they used a rendering engine seemingly more friendly to the consoles than to the PC.

thanks for your help.
maybe its time for a new gpu
does the cpu make a big difference??? i was thinking getting core2duo e6600 make the game much more smooth.
why they even make games like gothic etc that most comps cant run it unless you got a sick *** comp

Gothic 3 also runs horribly even on mine (I tried the demo)

A core2duo helps, but I think you're expecting too much on some games w/ the 7900gtx than you should. If you have Call of Duty 2 and play at 1600x1200 w/ 2x AA and 16xAF, you should hover between 45-60 w/ your card.

With Oblivion probalby in the 30-40s at 1600x1200.

BF2 should be good for 1600x1200@2xAA or more. :)

thanks dude for your help
i only play games on 1280x1024 thats the highest that my lcd screen goes up too

Ok, cool deal.

My 7900gtx at 1024x769 would hit around 90ish-fps (I think that's the FPS cap in that game) during multiplayer, so it's a good card for sure. :)

Yea gothic 3 is just a terrible game :S
Oblivion runs fine for me tho, and i have a somewhat outdated system
(P3 3ghz, 2gb value ram, and a 9800 pro)
I run oblivion on 1440x900 with a lot of things on high, shadows off, no AA. It runs pretty good.
