6800XT question?

I have a friend who recently purchased one of these..
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150157
He was asking me if I knew if it was possible to flash the bios of this card to a GT bios and open up the pipelines to 16. His ia a AGP card and I have done the similar with my old 6800GT when I flashed it to an Ultra. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

First off, you need to find out if it's got an NV40 core or not, if so, why not just unlock it with Rivatuner instead of messing with the bios?

Probably don't need to flash the bios, just need to try and unlock the extra pipes with Rivatuner. That's where the extra boost comes from.

Unlocking would seem to me make the most sense, Rivatuner is simple to use also

Well we spent about 3 hours attempting to unlock the extra pipes because it showed in Rivatuner that the max ppl goal was 12. We were unable to unlock them to 12 it always showed the current as being 8 and as far as I know it, no software mod that we attemped was able to unlock this card. I also convinced my friend not to flash to GT because the GT cards I believe run at different volts as well as they have a lot more physical pipes on them. There is no point in flashing it to a 16 pipe bios when the card appears to be lasercut to 8. It's a shame because it would have been a great bargain.

alot of the XT's were locked. Alot just dident unlock due to damaged pipes. I was going to get the same card "it looks really nice" but after looking at the unlocking results i went with a BFG 6800GS. and that unlocked and is running like a champ. 16/6 450/1120

a men, my GS runs 16/6 at 435/1200 like it's it's job. on stock cooling too. im going to be upgrading the cooling here soon to hold me off till tax time when im going to be building a new rig - my goal is 450 core.

i ran 3dmark 05 stock, then ran it overclocked and unlocked and saw almost a 2000 point climb.

i think the BFG 6800 GS OC is good bang for the buck if your trying to keep AGP around a little while longer. i picked mine up for 130 bone on tiger.
