The 360 is so advanced compared to current PC games due to the limitations of DX9. I rented Gears of War (you can turn off "Extreme Content" but you can't turn off all cursing, unless you turn off the dialogue).

Anyway, the graphics are amazing. Then I played the Rainbow 6: Vegas and wasn't impressed. It's as if they were using two entirely differnet rendering engines, but they're not. Maybe I just need to give it more time I 'spose.

Also, the "Lost Planet" game has some great post rendering effects and visuals. The smoke, explosions, etc. in Gears of War and Lost Planet are rather neat as well.

Now I'm ready for some quality UE3 and DX10 PC games.

Only problem is, is that my 360 begins to artifact after playing GoW for an hour or so in some parts. Not sure if I should just keep playing or exchange my 360.

Yeah the 360 does have some overheating problems. Try to keep it out in the open where it can get some nice cool air flowing through it. Other than making your own cooling system for it then keeping it well ventilated is all you can really do. I can't wait till Halo3 comes out. That's when I will be purchasing my 360.

Exchange it. My first one started freezing after 11 months. My current Xbox360 never artifacts, however it has a buggy disc drive and doesn't open ocassionally.

I wasn't impressed with the 360. (In my opinion) The graphics didn't seem to be as advanced as they were hyped up to be. I have, however, obly played three games so my judgement may be a bit biased :S

a good cheap cooling option is to buy some rubber feet to put on the bottom; buy three of them, two for the front and one for the back (tripod=steady) using the xbox horizontally; get that box a half inch or so off whatever you have it on, and give i lots of room to breath; also make sure to let the power brick breath as well

you can do the antec cooler thing but these solutions seem to have as many problems as they're worth; just get some air under it; if you can swing it, get a little desktop fan and blow it on the 360

and btw: yes, it sucks that MS didnt use 120mm fans, out the top for instance; one of the things the ps3 does better it seems

Yes, UE3 is a DX9 engine, however it will implement several additional effects for textures, lighting, etc. for DX10.

The 360's GPU is a unified shader architecture, so it's closer to DX10 than DX9. The smoke effects are just great.

I have played FEAR, BF2, and just about every other graphically intensive game on the market on my PC, and they're really nice, but they won't match all the rendering effects until Vista is out so we can put the R600 and G80 to work.

The graphics on the 360 looks a lot nicer than on my PC in sig.

But then again, it's only running at 1280x720, whereas my PC runs at 1680x1050, nearly twice the resolution.

I like Co-Op (Shooter, sports, etc) games for console, and RTS/MMORPG/FPS for PC.

Sometimes it's nice not to have to click and type... I'm getting carpal tunnel!

You should exchange the 360. I played GoW for some long sessions on mine and never had any problems with artificating etc. I also have an original model 360. Just keep it open where it can breathe.

On a side note, Gears of War at 1080i on my 65" tv has no current games that come close to its graphics...period. Unless you all can name one that I haven't played?
