Hey guys,

My friend wants to build a custom computer, and he has a $400-450 spending limit.

Obviously this rules out C2D because if I went that route, the graphics card would be cheap and so its not worth it.

He will not be doing any major overclocking(he doesnt even know how to build a computer so im doing it for him, i'll teach him though)

He pretty much wants the best gaming performance he can get with the money.

I was thinking along these lines:

Rosewill R6423 BK ATX Mid Tower Computer Case+350W Power Supply - Retail
$29.99 -$7.00 Instant $22.99

ECS NFORCE4M-A (V3.0) Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce4 4X ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
Model #: NFORCE4M-A (V3.0)
$55.99

CHAINTECH VGA256C-SE76GS GeForce 7600GS 256MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail
$105.99

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Windsor 2.0GHz Socket AM2 Processor Model ADO3800IAA5CU - OEM
$135.00

WINTEC AMPO 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Desktop Memory Model 3AMD2667-1G2-R - Retail
$87.99

Western Digital Caviar WD800BB 80GB 7200 RPM IDE Ultra ATA100 Hard Drive - OEM
$41.99

SAMSUNG 18X DVD±R DVD Burner With 12X DVD-RAM Write, LightScribe Technology Black IDE Model SH-S182M/BEBN - OEM

$31.99

Subtotal: $481.94

Anyway I could make things cheaper? Other suggestions?

I'm sure the 350w PSU will be fine. Using the calculator:

It comes out to be like 238w computer. Obviously give or take a bit, but its under.

Well I would say with that, unless you wanna take a ram or processor hit you can't really go any lower on anything. You might be able to save a little bit of money not going with a lightscribe drive, but maybe not, and that would only be 10 bucks. From what I see though it seems like it will work, I would be cautious of the PSU though, Rosewill PSU's have a tendency to go out on people and PSU's that come with cases aren't the best either, but I understand that you also need to save money and I have had to do that before myself, on other peoples builds. It looks like a good setup though.

No, they had windows 98 then upgraded to XP, but a Pentium 2 PC isnt cutting it anymore...
