Hey guys!
I am in the process of upgrading my current system to give it a boost in video editing and gaming. Right now i have a socket 939 3500 winchester and a gig of crucial ballistix DDR PC-3200. I do alot of editing on this computer, so it is a workstation and a gaming computer. I decided to buy the Opty 165 and overclock to ~2.6 gigahertz. To edit High Defentition I've heard it's best to have 2 gigs of ram. Any suggestions?? So far ive only really seen this OCZ Titanium 2Gb (2x 1GB) that looked interesting, but im sure there are more. Also, ive been looking at the 2 GB (2x1GB) Crucial Ballistix memory kit.

im no expert on the subject but i hear gskill and team group have some pretty rocking DDR modules.
dont take my word for it look it up on xtremesystems as i recall theres plenty of good info on those there.
even average overclocks for those (i think)

The hardest thing these days is actually finding good fast (faster than DDR400) memory in stock as DDR is almost extinct. You may want to do your memory shopping at your favorite vendor as it will be harder to find memory in stock than it will be to simply pick a brand and speed.

I just got some Crucial Ballistic PC4000 memory (2x1gb kit).

I chose that memory based on a lot of reading I did lately to find out if it is better to have tight timings or higher memory speed. It turns out that memory speed is more important than timings as long as the memory stays at 1T (Based on AMD A64 processors).

I also chose the Crucial Ballistix PC4000 memory because I found a few reviews that show it consistently hitting 290-300mhz. I got it for 15% off from Crucial, and I used the coupon code BBEMPLOYEE to get an additional 5% off. The total cost was $275 after tax and free shipping.

I was also considering these other kits based on a review at AnandTech that compared several 2gb kits:

G.Skill - Overclocked to about 250mhz

Kingston HyperX - Overclocked to about 250mhz

Corsair - Overclocked to about 280mhz

Mushkin - Overclocked to about 290mhz
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820146034

I had also considered these, but they were out of stock when I ordered and are still out of stock.

I would have ordered the OCZ if they were in stock due to reviews and price, but I have a feeling they won't be back in stock.

It appears the problemematic IC's that you may be referring to are 5B D's. The model that I linked to are different. Crucial discontinued the 5B D's quite a while ago based on some other posts.
