are you sure about that optical/digita coax info? Optical and Digital Coax *should* output all speaker information, be it 5.1, 7.1, whatever the max is that the card can do. I have never heard otherwise about SB cards, I have never tried them myself, but it does not make any sense to me that they would limit them to 2.1 output.Maviryk said:If you use it with your pc, you'll only get 2.1 sound unless your Xi-Fi extreme does DDL(Dolby Digital Live encodeing, I.E, taking 5.1 sounds from games and enconding it back into a Dolby 5.1 for a home theatre system.)
Most PC speakers have 3 inputs, Left/Right, Center/Sub, and Surround Left/Right. I don't see any on those speakers.
IIRC the optical and coax on Creative cards only output 2.1 signals.

You can't go from analog output(what the sound card outputs natively) to digital (what the speakers need to recieve natively to give surround sound) without conversion.
@Pak, if you buy that box it will do what you need, and so would buying a Cmedia sound card. Looks like they're about the same price either way. If you do return the speakers, you should get a set of Logitech z-5500s which are native PC speakers but can also double as HT speakers (they're THX Certified!).
