soundblaster sound card won't play sound !!!

i have a "Sound Blaster Audigy, DR release 2.9.16" sound card and when i was cleaning my old PC from all of the dust and crap that was in there i removed the card and i think i must have put it back into a different PCI slot and now it refuses to work or even play any sound at all.
what can i do?
any help will be greatly appreciated

thanks

Go to control panel, then Add New Hardware, then just follow the instructions as if you never installed it before. If that does'nt work check to make sure you got the card all the way back in?

When you removed the card, your onboard audio might have changed settings.

Usually in BIOS you set this to AUTO Enabled or Disabled. If you are adding a PCI sound card, AUTO is not right. I set my on board to enabled. (use front panel for mic headphones and PCI card for speakers).

But in Control panel--> Audio you must set the default sound device.

You define other applications to which specific audio device you want to use, but set your PCI card to Default. (Or select Disabled in BIOS for onboard Audio controller)

1. Go to Start->Run and type "services.msc" (without the quotes) and click OK.
1a. In services.msc make sure the Windows Audio service is started and set to Automatic.
2. Reinstall any codec packs you're using or install one (I recommend the full K-Lite Codec Pack - it's free)
3. Test your card with a different set of speakers or headphones just to confirm that it is the card making the problem.
4. Like Neur0mancer said, check the Sounds and Audio devices section in Control Panel and confirm that your SB card is set as the default under the audio and voice tabs.
5. Failing at fixing it with the above steps: Completely uninstall the drivers, run Driver Cleaner to nuke any creative drivers still installed, and then reinstall.

6. If no luck there, switch to a different PCI slot and repeat :/
