Fanless PSUs?

I'm thinking about building a silent or at least really quiet PC. I've looked at a couple fanless PSUs and theyre all so expensive for the power you get and my current PSU (Enermax Noisetaker 485w) isn't really that loud as it is. Are Fanless PSUs even worth it?

if your doing a PVR System, that needs like no power, I would say its worth it. So little a load that the PSU barely heats up then yes. Personally I wouldn't trust a PSU that is fanless. Heck my Powerstream is the loadest thing in my rig, and its damn near quiet.

It depends what are you planning to build. I will say NO. If you want to build or have something with grapic card and run it with stock heatsink then don't bother with fanless psu. Seasonic s12, m12, Corsair power supplies are really quiet and don't limit user from upgrading to highend system or having problems with power supply after installing hardware with high power draw.

Read silentpcreview.com, but be sure to selectively ignore any and all of their empirical evidence that a gaming PC doesn't really need that much power and can, most of the time, run on a fanless PSU with some careful considerations to airflow and cooling. We're gamers and overclockers after all, so our subjective experiences far outweigh their "testing" and "hard numbers."

Therefore just screw it and get the highest power Seasonic you can.

enermax liberty 500w, or forton blue storm 500w they both have absolute silent fans. or make sure the fan has a 120 on it then replace it with a yate loon.

Making sure the PSU is being cooled is so important to me I have a fan alarm on the fan. (it only has one fan) Under normal operation there is a coil in there which gets well over 100F. Which is fine... but still... without any airflow it could ez turn bad.
