Building a Home Studio PC - Intel or AMD?

So I've been charged with the task of building a home studio PC for my father. Being and AMD fanboy I was initially inclined towards an A64 setup, but it seems that AMD has fallen out of favor with even the AMD crowd as of late. From what I've read I'm now leaning towards an Intel setup (Core 2 Duo). I just thought I'd check in with the experts. Any thoughts?

Even the cheapest Core 2 Duo can outperform any AMD offering.

Even more true with the E4300 be released in the next few weeks for even less than a E6300. Almost identical performance around $20 less.

When I rebuild my wifey's computer It will be a C2D. And then I will take it and giver her my rig....hehehehe :beer:
