A couple of Overclocking questions

Ok, i am a complete Newb as far as overclocking goes.

Everything i know is from reading the guides on these forums. I have a couple of questions, hopefully somone can point me in the right direction.

I have a Core 2 duo X6800 that is liquid cooled and sitting on a Asus P5N32-E mother board. After reading the overclocking guide I decided to try an over clock my system. I kept it simple, and up'd the mulitplier from x11 to x13. But it would not Post anymore. So i cleared the cmos and set it back to x13, but up'd the vcore to 1.4. This time it booted up, but failed during the prime95 stress test.

I went back in bios and up'd the vcore to 1.5, and re-ran the Prime95 stress test. This time it worked fine, but now the CPU temperature in the low 50's at idle and almost 60c under a load and it will not reboot from windows. I can only do shutdown and power it back on. I tried setting the vcore back to 1.4 to see if that made a differance, but it didn't it still will not restart from windows.

ok so for my questions.

1. what is the differance between using the muliplier to OC and using the FSB to OC. I noticed most people that have a x6800, OC the FSB instead of the Mulitplier.

2. Any idea's why my system won't restart from windows anymore?

Any additional tips anyone might have about OCing the x6800 on a P5n32-e asus board are more than welcome.

real quick tip on Intel overclocking , its all about the FSB . Heat is the number 1 killer of an overclock , so the less V Core the less heat , best is drop the multi , drop the Vcore , raise teh fsb and mem settings .

Now once you get your fsb up to max , try upping the multi , just for giggles .

oh I forgot to ask what hsf combo you running , and please dont tell me retail .

good luck and Happy Overclocking

I have a Coolermaster Auqa Gate CPU cooler. I know it's not one of the better ones out there, but im trying to do the best i can with what i have,

Does anyone else have a Asus P5N32-E SLI Mobo?

I have read a bunch of guides about overclocking, but i can't seem to get anywhere at all with this mobo. If anyone can give we a few basic settings to get me started that would be great.

It seems every time i try to make some changes to my settings, my computer won't boot. so i end up having to go to default and trying again.

not sure what to tell you on the mobo oc'ing, but you may want to cruise on over to the Motherboards section as there is tons of stuff over there. Just surf under the Abit section and I'm sure you'll find plenty of threads for that mobo and results people have achieved with it.

Welcome and GL OC'ing!!
