Most secure way to send instant message?

I need a method of sending secure messages within my work facility. I have seen the encryption type of things that you can use with yahoo and such. Im sure there are still ways for people to view the messages right? IT could potentially view them if they wanted to bother with it even if an encryption type software is used right?

Any suggestions are welcome. I dont need something with lots of features or anything like that, just something that will allow a message to be transferred from one person to another with the least likely hood of getting seen by someone else.

Use one time pads

Perhaps something like http://www.bitwiseim.com. It is free and is encrypted.
