Anyone play any of these?

I am in dire need to pick up a nice single player game this weekend, and have NO idea what to grab, as it seems the latest PC games have sparked NO interest (expect Wahammer, but heard bad things about it).

I like strategy, RPG, space games, and mostly stay away from turn-based...I like to control fights etc, but do make exceptions now and then.

My current list of games are Silent Hunter III, Company of Heroes, Faces of War, Spellforce 2, Medievil II, Gothic III, Oblivion, Dawn of War series, X-3 Reunion, and Sword of the Stars. So you can kind of see my likings.

So after reading older reviews, I was wondering if anyone has played any of these:

1. Silent Storm
2. UFO: Aftershock
3. Codename: Panzers III
4. Warhammer 40k Mark of Chaos

I have read reviews on them, but would like to hear what others think. Also if nothing on that list seems good...what would you suggest?

WH40k is very fun, and plenty of x-packs to keep you busy if you like it

I played UFO: Aftershock.

It was great when it worked. When the game start up it normally freeze. The longest it played for was an hour, then I'd have to restart the whole computer.

If you have a dual core, multi-cpu or hyperthread you need to disable them.

Or you could just download WinLauncher XP and set up a profile for any games that you need to limit the processors on and start the game from that application. Worked great for me especially since Call of Duty really dislikes dual core hehe.

Well I thought since UFO:Aftershock was only released last year that it wouldnt have conflict with dual-core...silly.

Well I am DLing a game called Star Wolves ATM. Got it off GamersGate...looks interesting, and obviously not a game launched in the States...well AFAIK.

I might grab Mark of Chaos. Thanks for the suggestions! 3 day weekend with the wife not sick = boredom if I cant find crap to do heh.

I haven't played any of your list, but I sincerely recommend trying your hand at the Baldur's Gate saga, Icewind Dale saga, Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2, and SW: Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2. If you liked Oblivion, you could go a step back and play Morrowind with both expansions. Out of your list, I've seen #4 running and both users have praised it to me. One of them is my brother who got it from me for birthday and he liked it a lot. It looked great, had a lot to offer, was involving and played well on his Celeron 700 / 512 MB SD RAM / GF3Ti200 machine, so I believe it's not a resource-hogging game.

Between RTS and turn-based, you may want to try Europa-Universalis-based Paradox games such as Europa Universalis 2 or Crusader Kings (there's also Victoria, Hearts of Iron 1-2 - WW2 times, Three Thrones - mediaeval Scandinavia... basically, there are many historical periods to choose from).

Between RTS and RPG, there's always Warcraft and all that's derived from it.

Ever played Blackmoon Chronicles? Doubt you'll be able to find it and even if, it will still be a many years old game, but it's one of the best hybrids of RTS and RPG ever made. By Cryo at that.

And, if you like sci-fi and RTS, perhaps Dune 2000 (again, I'm recommending vintage games, it seems...) or Emperor: Battle for Dune (less than perfect, conflicts with the book, the film and pretty much everything else, but gameplay is nice). Of course, whatever carries the Star Wars sign should be a good game as well and one worth playing.
