Pursuant to my recent thread about Intel or AMD, I've concluded that Core 2 Duo is the way to go. I've got a lineup of parts picked out (largely thanks to splat and his Overclocking Buyer's Guide). Trying to be relatively cost-conscientious here, but willing to splurge where it makes the difference. Thanks for any input.
Case:
Rosewill R6426-P BK ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
$17.99
Power Supply:
SPARKLE ATX-400PA ATX12V Ver2.01 400Watts Power Supply
$69.99
(Trying to save a little money here with the cheaper supply, but being a C2D that will hopefully see a decent OC, I'll buck up the additional $40 if need be)
Hard Drive:
Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
$169.99
(A fast drive is a must for this PC, as well as high capacity. I'm quite miffed I missed out on the 7200.10 drive for $139.99 in case you were curious...)
Video Card:
eVGA GeForce 7600GS 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card
$104.99
HSF:
Scythe SCNJ-1100P 120mm CPU Cooling Fan
$39.99
CPU:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Processor
$195.00
Motherboard:
ASUS P5W DH DELUXE/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard
$224.99
(I chose this motherboard over the cheaper AW9D because I didn't like the idea of only having 1 available PCI slot vs. the 3 on the Asus)
RAM:
TeamGroup 2 Gb Kit (2x1Gb) Dark 4-4-4-12 800Mhz
$265
(Again, trying to save a little money here, but if you guys don't think it will handle the high FSB required to OC the E6300 I'll buck up the extra dough for the guide recommended TXDD2048M800HC4DC)
Well, that's all the core stuff. I'm ready to buy now, so anything that's "coming out next month" is out of the question. I just wanted to run it past the brilliant minds here at OCF before I commit. Thanks!
