data recovery from external hdd?

data recovery from external hdd?

hi,
my wd external hdd crashed...it makes a clicking noise.
is there any way i can use data recovery programs to access the drive? any particular programs that are recommended for this sort of thing? i know about spinrite but i dont think it will allow me to see an external usb drive.
