Audio recorder needed

I need a free audio recorder program (or one that is at bestbuy, I have a gift card) that will record through the input line, allow me to record multiple tracks, edit them, add effects, and overlay them. All with good sound quality. I have cakewalk but that just doesn't cut it, the program is unstable and records with poor quality even though it is at the highest settings with a huge buffer. Also a final mix down into mp3 format would be awsome. I dj in my spare time and want to make a demo disk.

I don't know how it handles multiple tracks but Audacity is all sorts of fantastic, easy to use, and very stable.
