NEW EGG- going in the toilet

I guess all good things must come to an end.....

Well after many years of excellent service it appears they have either changed their way of doing business or......

Not one to gripe on a normal basis but...

This is 2 things within one week.

First there was a friend of mine whom I had refered to NewEgg about a year ago. They had 2 RMAs and were instructed to return both in the same box. They recieved 1 RMA reciept and of course it was on the lesser item. After phone calls they still have not resolved it. This person could be out about $300

Now there is my issue. I realise I ordered a 'open box' item. Video card actually. A Asus 7800gtx. When it arived it was just the card(which I expected) and it was filthy inside. It looked like someone had been using it for months and haden't cleaned it 1x. Plus the metal bracket that attaches to the computer case was all bent up. How this card could be put for sale let alone not cleaned up and tested is beyond me. It was no surprise once installed that while the fan ran the card was DOA. Totally. The MB even recognized it as bad. So when I requested the RMA, there are of course no more in stock so I have to get refund. Now get this!!!! They are charging me $36 restocking fee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

INCREDIBLE!!! I have spent over $15,000, probably way over, with them in the past few years and this is the way they are now handling things

I will keep posted if they resolve or deny to resolve either of these issues, but in the mean time be wary...very wary of New Egg these days.

Edit: Not to mention the shipping cost to send it back!!!

There is a newegg rep on here, check him out. He seems pretty good about taking care of things.

Live Chat reps are generally good from Newegg.

Shoot a PM to Newegg Support. I'm sure he'll straighten everything out.

They have always waived the restocking fee and have even credited me for shipping the item back when I have emailed/chatted/called them. They have the BEST support of any company I buy from hands down.

Welp I just experienced this same problem. I got a a8n32-sli and the voltage is flucating plus its scratched. So I went to return it and the system wanted to charge me $9.90 restocking fee off the $66 I paid for it. I went on live chat and the guy changed it in the system so there is no restocking fee charged on my rma.

I have been saying this for months now. I have been a newegg customer since there induction and have spent thousands and thousands of dollars with them. Processing time, RMA procedure, and customer service is slowly turning into a sinking ship. It all started going downhill in the middle of 2006 last year.

Well I talked to a rep per webchat and they have waived the restocking fee.

I hope they 'find' the 2nd rma for my friend.

I hate these threads. Retailer bashing is ONLY ok after you've spoken with a customer service rep about the issue (on the forums preferably when they have a rep here); in my opinion.

It's so hard to say how bad a company is if you haven't actually spoken to them or allowed them to rectify the problem.

I sort of agree.. However, sometimes you shouldn't need to talk to someone to get the problems resolved.. Thats why they have the automated systems in place, and when the automated systems have a problem or defect thats worth discussing. And, its worth talking about receiving shoddy product. The OP purchased open box.. That doesn't mean beat to ****. Open box stuff SHOULD work, and shouldn't be in awful condition.

But thats just me and my silly opinion ;- ]

^^^^^^ Me too.

I would much rather talk to a real person on an rma, especially with Newegg. I have had zero hassles when rma'ing something with the Egg when I follow this path.

Sorry to hear of your woes, luckily for me, I have never had any real problems with the Egg. Ordered stuff from them for ~3 years now, and have had decent interactions. Had to RMA 3 orders, which means I ended up with ~$50 shipping charges, but for $1500 of goods over the years, that isn't major.

Edit: And of course, there prices have almost always been nice. Not always the best, but usually pretty nice.
