Those of you holding out for lower prices on the PS3 might be in luck, prices are being slashed 20%. The catch? It is only on the 20GB model and only in Japan. Knocking $82 bucks of the price is nothing to sneeze at, it’d be nice to see a retailer in the U.S. drop the price 20% too.

PS3 sales in Japan haven't cooled off, they've frozen. Consoles sit on shelves as gamers wait it out: Waiting for actual games to appear or prices to drop. Retailers, on the other hand, are an impatient lot. Retailers are also buying "used" PS3s at much lower prices than previously, paying well under the original sticker price.

I think that was in response to Microsoft doing the same thing on the 360 back in November. It never happened in North America, so I'd expect the same from Sony.

Keep in mind also this is only a sale it is not for good. But yeah if consoles stay not selling prices may go down. (They are sold out around me and bestbuy.com was sold out last I checked so they are somewhat selling even with no games for the system.)

In the Uk we didn't get a XBOX 360 price slash it's still £279 for a standard console but I paid £300 and got with it the Premium package Pro Evo Soccor 6 (swapped same day with Gears Of War) and Call Of Duty 3. Now I got the premium console and those games but no Remote when it said I should of it in the box wonder if I should go to the store and ask for it.

I don't think so. You get either a headset or a remote. They probably didn't update the package. If it actually says you should get a remote on the package, then go ahead and ask for it anyway. Microsoft willl probably overnight it.

Not a big fan of Sony, and this I blame squarly on them treaing customers like crap. If they don't take us seriously, then they will NEVER find out what it takes to make a product for human beings.

Lets hope the prices drop here too. I know that sales are much worse in Japan than they are here.

I must say I love Sony products. At one point I used them almost exlusively. But I have ABSOLUTELY no interest in the PS3. I'm only vaguely interested in the Wii (I'm selling the one I just bought this morning) but that's just because of the fact that a lot of people I know have them and I can join my friend's buddy lists and all that. (Nintendo's lack of online play is still completely inexcusable.)

But nobody I know has the PS3 and very few people I know want it. Almost every serious gamer has moved on to the 360. And the non-serious gamers have gotten Wiis. There's only so much cash to go around. If the PS3 was like a hundred bucks... then it would be something worth talking about.

even if it was $400 for the 60gb (Canadian of course ;)). ppl would buy, developers would follow. but no....we can't have that now can we?

i must say, i hate blue ray....it is the primary factor of the ps3's price, no? they could have had a hit already if they just stuck with DVD instead of trying to take over the movie industry with their proprietary format that will most likely never spread its wings.

If it were even $300 or $400 then BluRay would win the HD format war and the PS3 would probably sell a lot. If they'd allow porn on BluRay that is ;)

The 329 dollars their talking about for the 20gb version in Japan is actually fairly reasonable considering it's thirty bucks more than a friggin 360 core system and you get a Blu-Ray player and a 20gb HD. I probably would've gotten that instead of the 360 if it was available at that price at the time... (and if that thing wasn't so huge.)

They do allow porn, they just will not produce it in their factories meaning you have to find your own way to burn the disc. Anyway I think a main problem with the PS3 right now is simply lack of games. Resistance is awesome, and it has the other typical Ridge Racer, Call of Duty, Fight Night but nothing that really pops out. March it looks like will be the rebirth of the PS3 due to a huge Firmware update and many games coming out. As for Blu-Ray, personally I think it really hurt the PS3 as it is they the PS3 was delayed for months. They had problems reproducing the laser. Though I do believe it will beat HD-DVD looking at what movies are coming to both and what the current sales numbers are, I think though that by the time this happens Blu-Ray players will be cheaper then the PS3 and it will no longer be a good deal to get a PS3 just for the Blu-Ray drive. As I said before the Blu-Ray drive may have killed the PS3 but the PS3 just may make the Blu-Ray drive live which IMO is very sad. (Though I must say after watching Blu-Ray I am a firm believer in it or HD-DVD now oever regular DVDs.)

Do I just e-mail customer support then and ask if I can get the remote
