VLC video not working

I tried to play some .avi and .mp4 files, and only the audio starts to play. The screen is blueish-gray and non-changing.

press stop, and than play.. if that does not work make sure you have the correct codecs installed..

and download the k-lite codec pack standard..

i always use it and never had any problems period.

The codec pack might help with media player classic, but VLC uses its own internal codecs.

Schalldampfer, I've had this happen occasionally while streaming video with the newest version (.86) of VLC. I rolled back to the older .85 version and it seems to have fixed things.

Yeah, just restarted the computer, and it's working now. Eh... but it'd be good to know the cause.
