Asus Probe II vs. Core Temp

I can't use the core temp program with the cedar mill Celeron @5.1GHz. Asus Probe II is saying 71C full load... I was wondering for those who have an Asus P5B deluxe and a Core 2 duo, what is the difference in the temp readings between the core temp program and asus probe. My hope is asus probe is showing higher temps... thanks in advance...

download throttlewatch, and see if you are throttling: http://www.techspot.com/download400.html

those temps could be right. what are you ambient temps? what is your case cooling like? what hsf are you using? how much voltage are you using?

I hate people who ask questions without providing enough information.. and there I go doing just that, sorry. Asus P5B D, Thermaltake Typoon VX full speed on fan, 1.55v in bios , 1.494v windows.
My case is open right now... room temp around 70C.

At 73C I'm not throttling at all. How do your temps on core temp program and asus probe compare.. I see we have the same board.. thanks again...

I know it is. What i'm saying how does YOUR C2D compare between asus probe II and the core temp program. For example: Core temp says 54C at full load, while asus probe says 61C at full load. Get it?

Similiar boat here, P5B-D with smithfield D805, my result 72C at stock ! , check here at my 3rd post, OOT I do under voltage at 1.1000V when I leave my rig at home for weeks !

It is known that Asus P5B-D running at older generation CPU tends to reports higher temp, and worst they vary at every mobo, just check out at Asus official support forum for this mobo, you'll see alot of similiar complains !

I took a screenshot with coretemp and pc probe ii running. They seem to be pretty comparable.

On my C2D system Core Temp shows ~10c cooler than PC Probe II. PC Probe II is reading ~5c cooler than TAT. This stays consistent whether I am at idle or under heavy load.

If you can figure out which one to trust let me know. I am playing safe and assuming TAT is correct.

On my machine, Asus Probe, CoreTemp, and SpeedFan are identical. TAT shows about 1 Deg. higher.

That CPU is a heat generator. I have a Pentium D 2.8GHz stock. Full load temp is 65C and I have great case cooling. I can see 72C with poor case cooling being possible or high room temps.

ahh yes, my probe says like 63c then the coretemp program only says like 52-53c i dont use probe for cpu temp reading anymore.

the bottom line is, asus probe is wrong. it could be 1c wrong, it could be 20c wrong. it really doesn't matter.

i would use throttle watch, along with asus probe to find out a ballpark on what is true. if you aren't throttling, then i think you are OK. try and raise your temps a few c you should throttle right around 75c (afaik).

I bet you guys who are reporting (nearly) same temps versus different temps are using different software versions.
