refrigeration unit to cool UPS batteries

Has anyone tried using a refrigeration system of some kind to keep UPS batteries cool? By keeping them at roughly 55F (maybe lower?), they would last longer yet still be operating at a favorable temperature for proper operation. (The refrigeration unit does not need a UPS since thermal inertia serves that purpose.) Any thoughts?

I cannot think of a reason why this would be a good idea. What you spend on energy to keep the batteries cool, you could spend on replacement batteries way down the road.

UPS Batteries don't get hot enough where they would need any sort of powered cooling. if you really had to get cooling though, just get a really big heatsink.

However, since batteries produce virtually zero heat when inactive, it can be easily implemented for very little cost if a liquid loop chiller is already in use. Just put the battery in an insulated box and add a few loops of plastic tubing to act as the cooling coil.
Now for those in cold climates, keep in mind that heat from the refrigeration unit warms up the room. (Of course, in that case, you might as well put the batteries outdoors or in the garage and flow controlled amounts of warm coolant around the batteries to keep them from getting too cold.)
