At the egg + some free money clip dealy.

Not a speed demon, but how can you go wrong for $27 shipped from newegg, plus a free gift.

Tempted to upgrade a few rigs with this, mb's are only like $35 bucks too.

This would actually make an ultra-cheap gaming rig thats pretty decent. I know that my old A64 3000+ Skt. 754 was great for games. Really the only reason I upgraded to this 939 setup was for pci-e.

Somebody needs to make a folding farm out of these (Since the retails come with heatsinks).

I've never built a 754 rig, but with a $27 processor, probably whatever came up as cheapest on Newegg. =P

I would defer to those who have some experience with the 754's.

And the retail might be a better buy if you don't have a heatsink lying around.

For 27$ is damn hot...I would buy that even if I had no use for it for that price.

There are a bunch of cheap motherboard choices out there that are extremely cheap and come with integrated graphics for a folding farm.

This one looks good:

This board is a great overclocker, but its a bit expensive for someone looking at a $30 CPU:

Of course, for a folding farm, you don't really need any graphics power at all. You can toss in some piece of crap pci 1 mb vga card and netboot off an onboard ethernet connection. (I probably have 10+ pci video cards lying around doing nothing. I just sort of accumulate them. Not fast enough for any kind of real desktop use, but they work fine in monitorless servers, folding farm pc's, etc.)

This combo deal isn't bad either for a folding farm: $81, DFI nforce-4 mb + a socket 754 venice 2.2 ghz 3200+. You'd need to throw in a crappy graphics card, nothing integrated. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136162

MRD, now that you pointed out that mobo, you can get it with a Venice 3200+ for $80 in a newegg combo:

I've had one 2800+ oc'd to 2.5Ghz and folding for the last 1.5 to 2 years. Gets work, crunches, turns it in and gets more. It has been very stable throughout.

not bad, I am starting to migrate out of P3 gear (two of my boards died in 3 months) and this may come in handy.

the difference between 754 and 939 is the 754 doesn't support dualchannel memory (and no dual core, obviously). that's the biggie.

wow... $64.99 for a motherboard and CPU... and its actually decent.
thats a hell of a deal there. you could make a entire PC for about $150 if you went dirt cheap. damn...

Yes, it would meet the requirements for Vista. Now it won't run as well as say a dual-core would, but it will run.

My brother pushed that chip to 2.5 Ghz on an NF3 mobo. Would have gone higher, but the chipset was the limit.
